I went and test drove it today with my gmtdBASIC scan.

Truck rides good and has a straight body, no rust.

Nearly all the clear coat on the upper 1/2 of the truck is GONE.

Interior is rough but dash and seats look good, the carpet just needs a good cleaning or rubber replacement but will work for now, headliner and flip down visors are toast, DS door pannel handle is a piece of angle iron.

Exhaust is disconnected, possibly crossover rotted off.

Turbo pressure never gets over 2 psi and leaves a huge cloud of black from under the truck, hints possible crossover rotted.

Desired timing vs actual timing is WAY off, possible pmd. No codes thrown at all though :???: .

Tranny shifts decent AC will freeze you out.

Best part is GM CRATE ENGINE :D! New looking and the firewall cover was replaced recently and shows no cracking and little sagging, must be recent!

Talked him down by telling him the tubo is non functional and the IP has a problem. Talked him WAY DOWN!

Hope to have it in a week!

Looks good.

Start by sampling or changing the oils. Including the diff oils... I'd sample the engine to be sure there are no issues before or after purchase.

The engine oil was changed in the past 2 weeks so I doubt it would show much. With the fairly new engine I'm not that worried, i have worse! Changing gear oil is a given and before I work it hard the tranny will be gettin a shift kit and deep pan finned pan this is assuming it already shifts good after the engine problems are behind me.

The truck has been sitting for a good 2 years at an appartment complex. The guy bought it not knowing anything about diesels and no way of knowing if it would still run. Put a set of batteries in and drove it to the police station mechanic (guy that has it is a cop) he say the HB was out and repalced that, he scanned for codes found nothing, i didn't get codes either but there are obvious problems. I'm leaning toward the crossover on the turbo since it smokes in that area and there is a large roar under my feet.

For the price I am getting it at I'm not that picky!

Do tell? $1500, Scap metal price can be met by the bed alone. ITS ALL THERE!

The truck sounds better at idle than mine. Smooth at butter, no smoke while i nelt down and looked under. turned over better than my 95 Z71 too and I have new glows, injectors, and batteries. TDC Offset was -.56 on the dually. Did the upper radiator pressure test and it was soft, Oil still looked nearly clean when I checked it.

Nice find, I wonder if it is a GEP engine. The smooth engine idle could be a bad thing :) well some people think a diesel should sound like a diesel and if not must be something wrong. Like injectors that are worn or NA injectors in a turbo engine will idle smoother. The IP may not have been installed correctly, need to try setting timing yourself to see if its just way out of tolerance so that the stepper motor isnt able to engage. The TDCO is stored value until commanding the relearn, so IP can be swapped and be sitting at an actual -3.0 TDCO but still be stored as -0.56. The stepper motor on the side of the IP could just need to be reseated. Mechanics dont know how to work on these engines.

I am thinking it is new enough it has a GEP. When my injectors were worn it rattled terribly so I bet they are decent. It sounded nice and ran +45psi at operating temp and didn't have any real blow by but I only ran ~5 miles after letting it sit and warm up from idle while crawling all over it. After 5 miles I had found my bargining leverage and had already seen the rebuild sticker. The tdc offset not being relearned is a real possibility but wouldn't that throw a stepper motor code? Even more concerning is why does it not throw any codes while not making boost and the timing being way off. On the boost code my theory is that the vaccum system might still be working proplerly but the turbo just isn't getting any exhaust due to rotted crossover.

Well lets go get it this weekend bring it back hook up to the computer see what all we can see. change the tdco and go threw it with a fine toothed comb. If anything you can scrap it and sell parts off of it and make more than your spent. Done deal

It should be coding, but it probably has not been driven enough to cause them. It takes a while to get the codes. The boost has to be off by more than 2psi for 10 straight seconds. The timing ridiculously needs to be 5 degrees off for more than 20 seconds straight. So it normally happens on a long acceleration like highway/interstate on ramps or up a hill.

The turbo only pushes 2# tops but I didn't stay in it for too long as I was in a 45mph zone. The timing was off the actual and desired was of the whole time as far as I could tell.

Guy got offered full price and I wasn't going to pay asking price for a truck in that rough of condition. Going to check out this tommorrow afternoon http://tulsa.craigslist.org/cto/2003672627.html

Was a Coke delivery truck (newer white paint over red)
Rebuilt engine has ~75K on it
Straight piped
Says Speedo jumps abunch
Temp guage only reads hot at all times
Radio doesn't work
No cruise
Looks great in the pics!

How hard is it to ad cruise on a DB2? All else SOUNDS easily fixed electrical, sensors, and other BS.

Checked out the truck today, it was a pretty smooth running truck.

3.5 inch exhaust sounded amazing, the truck didn't smoke at all and had very little blow by.

the temp guage read ~200* and he said that is where it always runs and it seems way to hot he likes 165* stats. No problem there then.

AC worked great.

Speedo just bounces ~5mph going down the highway.

Paint looks good but someone cut corners on prep, frame has been painted. Door lock missing on the driver side but that can be replaced.

Ran strong, I honestly would say if I lined it up against my 95 Z71 the 95 would get killed. Not that my z71 is impressive at all though.

He wants 3500 but i dont think he would argue with 3000 in green backs

Lol no kiddin, all of the wheels are sprayed and the front bumper spacer. It looks ok but I will be sanding the wheels down and painting them black and getting new chrome center caps (thats just the way I like to roll) black looks cleaner IMO A set of alcoas would be nice though. Interior is nice besides the fancy tac job on the head liner :nonod:

Your 95 is factory limited by a computer and that 92 is not. When you de-limit the DS4 it will do mighty fine.

Glad you found a nice one that runs good.

Yeah I rode in Caskeys the other day I'M JEALOUS!

I thought my 95 ran pretty good but this truck is pretty freaking cool!

A couple questions, are the DB2 throttle pedals supposed to be TIGHT/STIFF? And how hard should it be to move the factory wastegate, the spring seem really tight but I am used to the vaccum system?

Since the stock 92 turbos were only supposed to put out 8psi the spring is not as tight as most people's turbomasters, and does not hold tight like vacuum at idle. You can make your own custom one by cutting the canister of the stock one and modifying it like a lot do with their stock vacuum canisters.
