Truck Down-No start Bad batteries?

Yeah, both are good options, except I just bought 2 years worth of Racor filters, LOL. I may just leave it unplugged when I did it, lol.

*Knock On Wood* Still on the originals on the 05, but it also has half the miles of Mike's truck.

IDK why people complain about changing the fuel filter on these. I don't have to remove anything to get at it. Although being 6'6" might have something to do with it...

You fellas should try a LML... It's even worse.. I changed mine for the first time last week and said a few choice words. Going in from the top on this truck isn't going to happen from what I can see. I'm not short either..

Either of you want to come and tackle changing mine out? I'm willing to bet the LML has alot more room than I have, and the new trucks are a walk in the park to do compared to mine. I pulled the battery last time to get to mine as I just couldn't get it loose otherwise. And putting the new one in is a pure PAIN IN THE A$$!

Your custom job doesn't count! :D

Ferm: That is what happens when you try and put 10 lbs into a 5 lb box! :rof: Just kidding. I'll bet yours is tough, seeing you did the engine swap. A little tradeoff, for a better running and more powerful motor. Just a little harder for the maintenance. :D

Why not?:hihi:

It's a minor trade-off for that smile I get everytime I nail the throttle. I just wish these new filters were easier to put on, the old style ones started right in but these new RACOR ones are a tight fit.

Hand tight only... loosen it from up top, go down below, pull the lower corner of the fender liner by the AC drain back, reach in, unscrew it the rest of the way and it always came right out. Put it back on the same way after applying some Parker o-ring lube to the rubber parts.

Never understood what made this so difficult for some.

With enough hose you can just relocate the filter housing to some area much better/easier to get at....or do what I did and use a nicktane up front and one in the back and worry about it every 60k.....

Of course the last 13 (now 14) posts have absolutely nothing to do with the original topic but WTH... at least we're being communicative. :D

No start this AM. Just clicking like a dead battery. Keeps resetting oil life monitor to 0%. Disconnected both batteries and am reading a bit over 12V on each. No codes.
Went through car wash yesterday and it was running fine. Been in the shop at around 40* minimum overnight. I noticed it was cranking a bit slow lately.

Ideas?

:WTF::eek:fftopic:

Now back on topic! :D Oooops, That was me.

I bet Bruce (racedaymechanic) would make a better kit for your trucks, if somebody were to take a Duramax to him so he could get measurements!

Of course with that new RV he could always come to a motor swap party at Steve's house and really tidy up the engine compartment wiring setup and all sorts of fun stuff like that...:D

and back off topic we go...:hihi:

I'm just going to eliminate the oem filter and add a second filter(30 micron) before the Cat on the frame rail...

and move the FICM where the second alternator is supposed to go...I want a clear shot at them valve covers in case I need to do injectors sometime in the future...

Good point. I'd guess the new generation of LB7 injectors are pretty much bulletproof though.

Nope. Still suck... :(

The ones since August of 08 have proven to be ALOT better, but still a few failures. Nothing like the old style ones though. I guess once GM's dime ran out and BOSCH had to start warrantying some of these inejctors on teh aftermarket, BOSCH decided to improve them some and we now have the new ones.

mine are the new version but with 40 over tips...

I'm hoping they last longer than the old ones did...

I'll be doing some assembly this Friday and Steve has off next weekend, so I'll be over there from next Wednesday until we get the swap finished...hopefully by that Saturday or Sunday at the latest...

Whenever I have a battery out I always sprinkle Baking Soda all over the box. If I spray someoil or repaint in the area I always sprinkle a little soda on while it's wet

Does anyone use the copper penny anymore? My father used to use a copper penny neat the battery box, stating that the penny would corrode before the steel. :???:

I wonder if the minimal copper in pennys nowdays would still work the same.

I've always kept at least 1 coke on hand in the shop in case I need to neutralize some corrosion.
