When driving along to work and after about 2 miles on the freeway my truck seems to cutout for 1/2 second, the SES light comes on, RPM's drop, and it does it 5 -6 times. If I reduce the speed it is ok. Like I said above, I get a code 12 flashing. The book says it is not an error but it is flashing more than 3 times. Once the truck is warmed up it seems to be fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Im thinking you have a fuel delivery problem. When did you change the filter last? Do you know what psi your getting at the T-valve?

Mine had simular issues with a cloged line. It caused it to shift very hard 1st to 2nd gear.

I read your check list again and see you did the filter six months ago. Thats plenty of time for it to clog up again. I would check your psi. You will have something to work with then.

While the truck is idling, check the voltage on contact G of the diagnostic port, bottom left. There should be 14V, this is the Oil Pressure Switch (OPS) sending voltage to your Lift Pump (LP).

You should have LP working with the GP/WTS, when cranking and during operation. It works through different power sources though. Check the pressure at the drain valve in each case.

The engine rpm sensor is on the rear of the engine behind the fuel filter. It drops in like a distributer on a gasser. It also drives the oil pump. I had one fail on my 91 6.2. It would cause the torque converter to lock and unlock[ecm thought the engine wasn't running, then it was, then it wasn't] Took out my 700r4 tranny in 50 miles.OUCH!!

I'm OBD2, but when my fuel pressure runs low enough to effect IP I code also, and computer limp modes me until turn off and re-fire.

Checking Fuel pressure for me at this stage revealed a vacuum of -7hg. My issue is a clogged sock in the tank, excellerated by thickness of winter fuel at cold temperature.

Relieving proper fuel press +7idle, 5 cruising for me is to blow aire into tank via lifp pump inlet, fuel cap off.

Check your fuel pressure while driving with 10' hose to bring gague in cab, see whats happening at time of stumble.

If low, blow the sock.

If restored, you know you need to drop your tank down the road and clean her out.

NExt time mines out I'm removing the sock alltogether and installing a walbro lift pump and pre-filter, along with permanent fuel gauge mouted in cab.

Problem found / faced / annihalated.

Check your fuel pressure is first place to start for you.

Ok just checked the fuel pressure pre fuel filter change and it was 5 psi dead nuts. Post filter change 5 psi dead nuts. Also I just got the tranny services and the technician said I had an ABS code 9. Is there a remote possibility that they are related?

Check the power wire going to IP. Wiggle it around while probing it with VM. Check for freyed wires......Check the ground on rear pass side intake

Is the fuel pressure at idle or at WOT? If it is at idle, it is somewhat on the low side.

For a 93, OBD-I, there are 3 possibilities not in particular order:
1. LP is on the way out, not out yet but weak
2. OPS is bad, it does not give the correct voltage/amp to the LP, hence LP is weak. If you ever change the OPS, make sure you get ACDelco.
3. Sock is clogged.

The fuel pressure was 5 psi at idle. Driving to work this morning my tranny seemed like it was in between two gears and then it it smoothed out. Please tell me this lift pump is not in the tank...please!

I thought the rpm (tach) ran off the alt??? The crank position sensor is where the distributor would be on a gasser right????

IIRC, need 7-9 psi at idle, 3-4 psi at WOT.

LP on the frame under the driver as mentioned above. The sock is in the tank integrated with Fuel Sender.

That is low at idle for a 93 LP, the real test at that point is what is the pressure while driving. This can be accomplished with about 5 feet of diesel fuel hose, attach it to the drain valve with a hose clamp and clamp it to the fuel pressure gauge. zip tie it to the wiper blade. Open drain valve and drive around. Make sure its nice and secure and you dont smash the hose with the hood.

My truck with the electronic IP runs just fine off of 5psi at idle, and it hits 0psi sometimes on hard acceleration and never hiccups even then, usually at 3psi while doing 45mph, and creeps down as speed increases. But its a sign of trouble ahead maybe, so I'm going to upgrade so my pressure is higher.

just get 10 feet of hose and run it around your hood hinge, close hood without crimping it, and in your drivers side window. It sits right on the dash for testing.

I am going to grab some hose when I take my kids to karate. Hope the rain lets up.

I got cheap stuff, non diesel rated line, its all baloony rubberry bouncy like, but I still use it, had it for over 6 months, and it works when I need it.

alot easier to find. just keep an eye on it. Don't want a mess in there for sure. Proceed with caution.
