Just got back from a 2,100+ mile road from Fullerton, CA to Williams, OR via the scenic route up and down the eastern Sierra. Love the TreadWrights, they performed well. While on the road I got an e-mail from TreadWright announcing 1/2 off shipping sale through July 4, so go to their site and sign up so that you get these e-mails if you're interested in their tires.

So we took the scenic route with the intention of doing some fly fishing along the way. One day was planned to fish Kirman Lake via float tube. Kirman is a 3 mile hike in from the junction of 395 and Sonora Pass and the lake is at 7,100'. Great fly fishing for large brook trout and cutthroat trout.

Right after I got to fishing from the float tube, wife comes running and yelling that Webley, our male English Springer, had been bit by a rattle snake. And so the journey began. I had to stuff the 60 lb pooch in my backpack and pack him out. Then at the jun toon of 395 and Sonora pass we had cell reception and called 911. They directed us north to a vet hospital in Gardnerville, NV just south of Carson City. Elapsed time from bite to getting treatment was 2+ hours. Vet said you need to get anti-venin in them within 6 hours or it has no effect. Long story short we saved our dog with no lasting effects.

We stayed the night in Carson City and got an update on Webley in the AM. He was doing fine, though very lethargic:

Had to leave him over the weekend while we continued on to Williams, OR with Coventry, our other English Springer. Before we left, we checked out Virginia City, site of the famous Comstock Lode Silver Strike. Filled up with diesel there at 3.61 a gallon. Was very tempted to hit the pick and pull there as it does not get a lot of attention, but I just was not in the mood. But we did check out the other sites:

I mentioned that the Bunny Ranch was having a school's out 50% off sale on all college coeds, but the wife was not buying. We did check out the business park and the signs on the way in are pretty funny:

We picked Webley up on Monday on our way home. He's anemic, got some bloody swelling on his belly and he's pissing blood, but otherwise he's doing great and just needs time to recuperate.

The TreadWrights performed well. Check out their 50% off shipping sale if you need them.

Did you do any fishing while you were up around Williams? I spent a couple years in the Grants Pass area in the early 70's, with over a year living over the hill from Williams at Murphy. The Applegate Valley is a beautiful place, with many good memories of that area.

No fishing.:nonod::mad2:

We were there to attend a memorial for one of my wife's former work colleagues from way back in the day when she worked at TOSCO (The Oil Shale Company) back in the '70s when it was in Santa Monica. Absolutely gorgeous area. Need to get back there and properly fish it and now I have a base from which to conduct those operations.

Off topic but... Taking a stab here Don, did you ever meet a guy by the name of Lloyd Stewart while around Grants Pass? Guy with silver hair and 1 Glass eye he acquired during WWII.

I am glad that your dog is okay. I know that had to be scary.

Is there a coupon code or something for the 1/2 off shipping?

I got an e-mail. Somehow it got deleted while I was on the road. IIRC there was no coupon code. I would just contact TreadWright directly as it portrayed like it was available to everyone who ordered by July 4th. It was my suggestion to register so that registrants would receive the e-mail.

BTW the tires are great. I think the tread is deeper than the original BFG ATs. Can't beat the price.

I was in Smith, Nevada, which isnt too far from gardnerville. that's where dad's cousin farms, and where I took the ol 95 GMC C2500HD to deliver a fertilizer trailer.

desolate, but beautiful country.

I think VW Lupo needs to visit nevada, for a guy like him (and me) that arent big fans of people in general, Nevada is a relaxing place. :)

so tell us, when you cracked the whip to get the dog to the vet, was it legal speed, and how well do they feel in the corners? :) glad to here you got there in time!

I punched the go pedal hard! Many a F bomb directed at slothenly pigs towing trailers up grades. Got to a construction traffic stop at Topaz Lake and they just stopped thri traffic and I was 2nd car in line. The line of traffic moving ahead was 1/2 mile long. I jumped out and told the flag waiver out situation and she called ahead and let us through. That saved us a 1/2 hour. I passed where I could, pushing that 6.5 and ATT to it's limits. I think my top speed was 90 mph, which is pretty good on that mountainous and windy section. Not once did the engine complain.

I don't remember anybody of that name or description. But, I'm poor at remembering names.

If I was to see that person, or a picture, I might remember them. I spent years working in others houses, occasionally meeting someone in town who remembered me, which leaves me scratching my head trying place a name with the person I just met.

A little update on Webley, he's doing fine. I told my wife that we'd know when he has his full energy back when he starts dry humping (he's neutered) Coventry before going to bed at night. Well, he was looking like a rodeo rider last night. Poor Coventry.

The TreadWrights handle no different in curves than the BFG ATs, at least from what I could discern. Let's face it, the Suburban is at it's best going straight.

We took Webley into our local vet and he checked out just fine. That said, there must be a difference in the scales at the two vets as he weighed 56 lbs up in Gardnerville and 64 lbs down here. My back says it was the 64 lbs.

I told my wife that we'd know when he's fully recovered when he starts dry humping our female English Springer "Coventry". Sure enough, he put on a good show before going to bed last night.:nanawrench::bow:

and I thought our dog was lewd and crude by snorkeling in his crotch in the dining room, sounds like we got the PG13 show out here. :)

I tried to sign up for the newsletter but it keeps telling me that my address is invalid or has already been confirmed.

Same happened to me but I placed a order any way. Also I cant find anything about half off shipping till the 4th. So I called before placing my order and they said they I had no Idea what I was talking about on shipping discount.

I'm sorry for having deleted the e-mail, else I would have posted it here. In case it was just for returning customers, I tried another order and got the same shipping cost to SoCal of $97 for the 4 tires.

Sorry for steering you on a goose chase.

I purchased 6 of their Puma AT tires. It was the only kind they had in a 225 75. I have not gotten them installed yet since I need alignment. So lets see how it goes. It was less then half the price of new tires with the shipping. Also I did get $78 dollars refunded to my account without a notification as to why. So I think it was for the 1/2 off shipping before the 4th that was mentioned above.

Thanks for that report George. The TreadWright person on the phone really screwed up and should have been on top of this.
