Transmission overheat trouble

I had the TCM tested and updated about a month ago. Here are the tech notes from UpFix.com
  • Tech Note: TESTED AND NO ISSUES FOUND We have reserviced this unit by checking, replacing and reinstalling some internal components as well as reprogramming to latest firmware version. Unit is communicating properly.
I’d hate to buy a TCM and that not fix my problem. After all it was tested and passed as a functioning unit. I'd really like to know what exactly controls the gauge and how the trans warning gets turned on.
 
I pulled the gray data 2 wire from the back of the IPC connector. I checked continuity to the TCM. I got continuity end to end and no continuity to ground. I will continue checking wiring but have ordered a TCM today.
