Hey im not sure i this should be in the tranny section but i just had it rebuilt and im throwing code 23 ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION 1 CURCUIT RANGE. I might add the truck smokes like a B**ch some times. The tranny shop said they dident know much about this code and told me to go talk to a diesel tech. The tranny i had in there was working fine then the toque converter stopped locking up and fried the tranny. I just though it was done from 389,000km on it. So i put in my spare tranny with 40,000 km on it from a recent rebuild and it did the same thing. Except it was cooked in about 30 km. So i then took it to the tranny shop and had it rebuilt but they dident fix any electrical. I just want to make sure its not some F**king senser knocking out the trannys. I don't want another $3600 rebuild bill......

I wonder if they forgot a ground. There are 2 or 3 on the tranny dipstick.

I just reread your first post. Was the TCC on the second tranny not locking up as well?

Nope it dident lock up on the second tranny eather. So i pulled it and put in a different torque and it did nothing. By then i was ready to burn the truck down so thats why i just took it to the shop and paid them to do it for the 4th time. But the odds of me getting 2 bad torque converters is very unlikley.

Most vehicles wont lock the torque converter with a TPS problem. It defaults this way since the PCM might not know when to unlock it.

I can't give you a definite answer but it creates more heat and slippage if it doesn't lock.

So if you drive the truck with the torque converter not locking will it wreck the tranny?

It can, it makes the trans run much hotter from the heat created from the slipping converter.

Its more of a problem with higher geared vehicles where the TC will slip more being in the lower rpm's. On older non lockup non overdrive transmissions, TC heat/slippage wasn't as much of a problem because the rpm's were higher making the converter more efficient producing less heat.

Well i got a $560 heavy dudy torque converter in this new tranny. The shop said there is no way i will be able to wreck it. Im going to check all the grounds tomorrow and does anyone know how much a new throttle position senser costs?

Not sure it was custom built in edmonton...... He just said its way better and heaver then the stock one.

Running without lock-up won't fry a new tranny in 30 km. There had to be other problems. A list of historical codes may help. Any thing that would make the force motor not call for more pressure could fry it. A suburban I worked on had a cut wire on the input speed sensor. It wouldn't make any pressure and it was a brand new tranny. Truck would barely move. A thurough electrical diagnostic should be done on the electronic trannys BEFORE blaming mechanical failure. A scan tool And pressure gauge can tell you most of what is going on in the tranny.

Thats what was happening on the first 2 trannys! You would half to give it like 3/4 throttle to get it to move. I told them if it has electrical problems i want them fixed first before pulling the tranny. They said that they couldent get it to lock in 4th with the scanner plugged in and said the number one rule is make sure you have a good rebuilt tranny to eliminate the tranny being the problem. Now they give me the truck back with these codes......... saying get a diesel tech to look at it. Im scared to drive it and wreck the tranny again

Sounds like your tranny shop's number one rule is to empty your wallet into their's.:eek: Their 4 favorite words are "you need a total rebuild".:rolleyes5: I wouldn't trust their rebuild if they know nothing about the electronics on modern transmissions.:mad2::mad2::mad2:
Take every wiring connector to the transmission apart. Look the connectors over closely for bent or pushed out pins. The pushed out pins are hard to spot. Check ALL fuses. The ground for the tranny is on the back passenger side of the intake manifold. Take it loose and clean the connector and the intake where it attaches with a wire brush. Clean any other ground connections at the rear of the engine.
With a compatable scan tool[tech 1 or tech 2 maybe a few others]or gmtd scantech software and a laptop connected and a transmission pressure gauge attached[engine running] you can vary the trans pressure with the scan tool. There also should be a jump up in pressure when shifted into gear. Check the reading of the engine rpm, input rpm,and output rpm. If the input rpm is'nt close or reads zero the problem is with the input sensor or the wiring/connector going to it.
The app code could be caused by bad ground or power to the ecm. Don't drive it if it doesn't solidly go into gear and move the truck easily.

It is the APP causing the issues....

Swap it out with one from your wrecked truck....it is just the 3 bolts holding the pedal assembly to the firewall and the electrical connection.

The APP in the old hotrod is a flaky one....I had to pull it out once in a while and clean up the connections on it. Best option is to swap one from your truck that you showed on here the other day....

The APP is the accelerator pedal assembly....5 minute swap....

I can't believe the shop didn't fix the code first rather than throw transmissions at it....what happened to diagnostics vs shotgun approach?..

Im for sure going to do that.... You said the APP is located inside the truck? by the fire wall? What does it look like? And the shops excuse was that they coulden't diagnose the electrical caues they couldent get the tranny to work properly with the scanner and if there was any electrical problem they would fix it after. By then i dident care i just wanted everything fixed. kinda shitty how im stuck with the electrical since they dont know about this code
