I'm finally getting to my manual to auto tranny swap and have a question...

I purchased a large cooler and fan from Derale with the intent of mounting it under the body.

About the only place I can fine is where the spare tire normally is, there isn't much room even their to have much of a slant for air to pass through but some...

The 2 lines will be long but I don't think that will matter much..

Anyone see anything wrong with this plan?

Idk the aerodynamics of under the truck, especially being lower to the ground.

Hoping the is a secondary cooler to a main up front. If not I would strongly suggest going up there with it.

What about mounting it up inside the passenger side of the bed skirt forward of the rear axle and running a cooling fan on it, just have the fan on a thermostatic switch controlled by fluid temp. you might need to cut and place a mud flap forward of the tire to keep road grime from getting slung up in that area.

I have seen on sprinter vans where portable ac's have the rear condenser mounted under the vehicle laying flat with a cooling fan. there might be some space for it like that forward of the fuel tank.

another idea would be not in front, but behind the radiator. iirc there is about 1-1/2" of space between the rad core and the fan clutch.

I know I'm just throwing ideas, but there are also water cooled oil coolers. plumb one into the cooling system and run the trans lines into it for cooling. works the same as the one in the radiator just it's outside the radiator.

Maybe mount flat ish but add a scoop and duct work or some baffling to direct air flow.

I don’t know but expect air flow under truck is turbulent and not sure it can be scooped easily.

Depends on fan direction. Baffling Could be in front of cooler ? I’m thinking of like the front stack bulkhead seals the stack and fan shroud helps air flow through the stack. Just thinking if any air curtain would develop to reduce fan efficiency that could be helped with louvers baffles etc.

That is where i was suggesting
