Tighter turning radius in a 2wd 3/4-1 ton.

No, but that would be cool and very expencive I bet. Maybe do a sas in the rear:smile5:

Well the C2500 LD (the 6 lug 2500) as they are called have a slightly thicker rotor then the half tons...so the spindles are in fact different..I actually just had this discussion with some guys on the 47-72 chevy forum im on since im doing a disk brake conversion on my '69 using a mix of 67-87, and 88-94 parts. The 1/2 tons use a 1" thick rotor and the C2500 LD uses a 1 1/4" thick rotor. Upside to the 6 lug conversion opens you up a lot wheel wise including some of the nicer wheels they put on the current GMT900 trucks

Thats good to know. Just eyeballing them in the junk yard I could not see that difference. Other than the 1/4" i believe they are the same as 1/2 tons.

Im leaning toward a CCSB 6 lug conversion. Might consider a sas if I can do it without any/much lift.

OK I feel like Im starting at square one. The info I have is the bearings are the same from 1/2-LD3/4 ton. The caliper and pads should be the same also. I did compair calipers in the yard and they sure looked the same to me.

Check out that thread i posted in your CCLB to CCSB conversion thread. That builder did basically exactly what you want to do only difference being he went to 5 lug axles. He did spring over axle in the rear to gain frame clearance and chose to install lowering shackles in the rear to bring it back down to level.

Just when tou need to make a serious hard evasive turn, the knuckle has been modified, leading to a too tight turn that breaks the spindle and rolls you over at high speed leading to th.... well you can imagine all the rest of it.

I was gonna post the same thing, but thankfully read ahead :D

What options trigger 6 lugs on a 2WD? crew cab and longbed plus maybe trailer tow package? :confused5:

From what i've gathered on other forums, The 6-lug 2500 trucks could be had with almost everything but the 7.4L, which i was lead to believe received the heavier components and GVWR. The 6-lug will probably have a 7200# GVWR and will come with the semi-floating 14-bolt. All 1-tons had 8-lugs minimum IIRC.

Some 1/2 ton trucks could be had with the 14B semi-floater and the higher GVWR rating as well.

Using a better box will help, but if you find yourself rubbing the frame you will need to start using different offsets.

Yes when they first told me about that mod I thought that might be good for a drifter race car on a track, but my gut told me NO WAY.
A different box might give me a quicker time lock to lock, but I don't care about the difference in speed between the two. As I am allready hitting the stops a box wont do anything for me. I agree a different offset will help. Im going to try removing the stops and adding a 1/4" spacer just to see what that does.

My 98 has the variable ratio steering (or Electronic Variable Orifice) but after having lots of trouble with the valve on the back of the pump, I deleted it and run the pump in high assist mode at all times. This makes the steering a little touchy at high speeds, but definitely makes the truck easy to turn.

Im still on the quest,
Here are a few pics I snaped at this weekends swap meet.

Im still looking for a short bed. I saw one this weekend, but the guy was asking $600. I kept walking.
