Thinking about adding 2 stoke oil....gotta couple Q's..

That is the exact reason I like to purchase my fuel from a high traffic station that moves allot of fuel...stability is an issue with the newer ULSD.

I have been around the refining business for almost 30yrs now, many issues challenges came about during the transition from the 500ppm road diesel to the new ULSD now at 10ppm sulfur. It's a regular nightmare to manage & it don't take much to throw off a 50,000 barrel tank.

Friggin idiotic sulfur limit, I not convinced it provides any environmental benefits either, other then it limited the available refinery's from being able to produce the road 10ppm stuff without a major investment, some that are just now coming online with their new units in the last few months...

Unfortunately high volume stations have bigger tanks and its still a trade off unless they have really high traffic etc. And then you become just a number and a nuisance little guy compared to the $500-$1000 tractor fill up. And it still all depends on managements bulk storage, filter, and general maintenance policies. I have had some major truck stop stations have poor performance.

IMHO you just have to be observant and find the best stations. Look at overall cleanliness filter age if external, nozzles, hoses, truck traffic, tanker traffic, and how it performs tank to tank.

And most importantly do good filter maintenance on your truck and dose additives as desired.

I have run red fuel, & 2 cycle until Bill Heath told me SAE30 is all he ever runs in his, SAE30 costs less than 2 cycle when I buy at Dollar general-Big Lots etc. by the case.

I have never had any issues with optic sensor, been running with oil & without since 2000, when ULSD became the primary fuel you could get I always run 30W with power service grey, when I'm at my camp near a AG supplier I'll run farm fuel(red) in it.

Hey Tim, how much oil are you running per fill up? and, isn't farm diesel illegal to run on the highway where you're at? - they will bust you big time in FL if they catch you.

Thanks
Smitty

3rd day with 2 stroke and additive.

The ol' girl noticeably smokes less  than it did before.

The "puff" on heavy acceleration is noticeably smaller and dissipates sooner. The smoking on long high hard hills is more of a "haze" now and black smoke on hills can be cleared with a punch of throttle.

Truck seems smoother and quieter still, but that's pretty subjective....

It hadn't occured to me to buy at the $ store, the ND30W I've been usung from WalMart is crystal clear, $2.19 / Qt.

Is your $1 ND clear too? Just curious.
I'd like to switch.

How to answer ? 3/4 to 1qt on the oil,

As for red fuel when at my camp/tree farm some red might find it's way if I pick up the wrong can of fuel I keep for my tractors ):h, town is 20 miles away from camp opposite direction from my going home when @ camp & if I don't feel like making a trip to town I mite "top off" with some red. It's been 2 years since the red found it's way in there.

When I ran a jet test cell in Jax @ the old Cecil Field test cell my old company bought, I would run "waste" red fuel that came from the filter housings 75 gal of "waste" fuel they had to pay to dispose of after every test run, I "saved" them money by disposing of it for them :D.

Post Katrina when fuel supplies were scarce it was legal to run red for a while I ran it legally for 3 months, I've been in NY since March, since they are so anal about everything else up here I've not run any red in it just in case they see I'm a Diesel and the want to flag me down and take a sample.

MS & AL where I normally drive the LEOs have better things to do than harass folks to see if they are running red or not, 1/2T tucks with Diesel are rare so I think I sometimes get a pass on that as well.

If I get red it's always put in 5 gal cans so not like pulling up to a pump & putting it in a big tank drawing suspicion, also after Katrina if it could hold fuel you bought the container.

So I wound up with a lot of gasoline marked cans that I keep red Diesel (stealth cans) :D in; because A they were available & B cost less than a can that is yellow in color and marked Diesel on the side, same plastic material/can shape & functions, but $4 more per can to buy an "official" yellow Diesel fuel can; go figure

I don't normally have my in bed fuel tank with me, so that doesn't draw attn either my burb & VW TDI when I mistakenly "spill" red into those do just fine with that and zero attention paid to those rides by the tax police that mite check.

When I was working for Butler Aviation at Sea Tac before I joined the Air Force, I worked the night shift. As part of my duties, I was required to pull one measured gallon out of every fuel truck and inspect it. It was not to be returned - you were to dump it in the pit that drained to a central capture/recycle location. Though obviously not a stated policy, the boss looked away from you coming to work with an empty five gallon can and leaving with a full five gallon can. It was kind of a perk of working the shift alone all night. I ran avgas in my Mach I exclusively for almost a year. Sometimes, my tank would get full and I'd just dump the rest in whatever gas tank of the car in the driveway at home.

Free fuel is like finding a twenty blowing down the street in the wind.

You crack me up Tim. ):h

Thanks for the answers

OH, how much fuel does your 1500 hold?

26 gal tank, 1 qt is overdose probably, but it's just so much easier to dump in a whole qt rather than mess with measuring dosages,

I add 4 oz or so to the wife's TDI bug's 12 gal tank as well with power service grey, seems to help it also I put hers in pre-measured 8oz dosage bottles she carries with her for fill up PS & oil

Even though I would like to I won't add anything to my V10. I have a hard enough time already with the DPF and all of the other associated emissions junk on that truck.

I just shut my truck off when pulled over. My theory is they wont suspect my 1/2 ton as being a diesel. I don't fill up with red at the station, that is just stupid. I might however pour some red from the fuel trailer at the field. I use a 1/2 2 stroke and 1/2 ND 30W mix @ 1 quart per tank 26gal
