The ATT is on! And I blew an injector on the way home? OR, My weekend with Leroy :)

Not according to my girlfreind with brick pavers. I have to bring and apply paver saver when leaving, or drive a non leaking gasser. In her defense, I scudded her driveway badly when doing motor swap, cause that where it died. Fn oem oil cooler lines. That paver stuff works great, near as I can tell, its baking soda and citrus oil.

Yeah, it's supposed to leak a little I suppose, and it does. Just my OCD streak coming out.

The AMG take-off pulley arrived from Leroy today! So tempting to just go swap it in and crank the thing back up but will wait for the FD to arrive. Looks like early next week now.

Why skip it? The hard part is getting the HB out of the way. Then use the seal pry out tool, tap the new seal in with a 2x4 and a hammer or specific installer tool, grease it, and it's done.

Diesels mark their territory. Unlike gas engines the black sooty diesel oil is very hard to remove.

No oil drainage required. Take a flat blade screwdriver and collapse the seals metal ring in on itself (towards crank centerline). Once it buckles inward, it'll release the press fit. (seal)

Sometimes a self tapping sheetmetal screw into the steel ring will give you a pry point.. Sometimes not. Usually you end up totally butchering the seal to get it out

No oil drain needed. Go buy both of these, they will pay for themselves over the years.

once the balancer is off it will take about 15-20 minutes for doing one the first time. After you have done 2 or 3 its about a 5 minute job.

Not 6.5, but good example. Fast foreword to 2minutes in. There is a tool for installing a better way the he does in video, but I do it just like this unless its a high perf race engine.

Interesting. Now I get it. Visuals are everything! Thanks, guys. I'll be picking up those tools at HB, and definitely using a cheater bar to get that kind of torque...

The Fluid Damper is here! I'm hoping to get it on Saturday, but have a pretty tight schedule. It may be over the long Christmas holiday. Headed to Harbor Freight tomorrow. I also got the crank seal at the dealer, btw.

Great! I got your old pulley yesterday and yes it was FUBAR. I'll try to get a video of it. No wonder it was knocking!

make sure to not use a hammer on any part of the install. The proper installer should keep you from ever being tempted, but I figured I would warn you anyhow. :)

Glad you go the Fluidampr, we run a few of them and they are definitely a best buy, and a wise investment.

Good luck!

I won't lie... after reading all the HB threads on here and the carnage that can happen if this job isn't done properly (by someone who has never done this before), I may just slap the replacement AMG pulley on, delay any major trips, and plan to visit Leroy again in a couple months! Similar to dealing with heavy electrical or plumbing work, sometimes you just call a pro. Good opportunity to get the exhaust on as well... Whaddya think, Leroy?

Other factors/excuses to save my dignity here out of the norm- pregnant wife, house upgrades underway, staging it to sell, lender wrangling, and possibly moving next month... Off to go tile shopping now. :(

I'd say give it a try. Its about as simple of a job as there is both HB and exhaust. You'll be glad you did it and have more understanding of your truck. We are all here to help you if you get stuck. It takes about 10 hours to make the drive here and back, so time wise you'll be way better to do it yourself. I could do those two jobs in 1.5 hours.
But if you still want to come down here I'll get them done for you.

Take the crank bolt with you when you get the tool to make sure threads on the install tool match it.

X2 with Leroy comment. I read those threads as well and did it according to that thread I mentiond earlier with sacrifical boilts and a cheap pry bar to hold the crank from spinning. I was still paraniod cause I read another thread where someone had the bolyts loosen, that I vhave rechecked torque on 2 occasions when shroud was off. I've had HB's off gasser motors and never gave it a second thought, but broken cranks aren''t a issue on AMC motors like Cam walking and cam gear beaking on dizzy are. That said, if I was ebola free and lived near Leroy, I might head over.

Don't bring up Ebola again! you know there was a report the other day that someone has it here again. East coast I think?

Ya, a few people showed up in Boston the other day and went to Nebraska.

If you do your own HB install here's a tip I got from somebody else, I think on this site. Do you have a floor jack with a removable handle? Use it for an extension handle for your breaker bar. With the long jack handle you can get enough force to come up in the neighborhood of the torque needed break loose, and replace, the center bolt holding the HB on.
