Sudden no start

Yes, air can cause that.

Now that you can start, make sure engine is running.
Open the t-valve and see if you can keep it running.
 
You can test the PMD somewhat with the info in this thread. After the above I would replace both the OPS and relay for the lift pump. Both mechanical and both have limited life.

Thanks for the link. I'll go through that this weekend and see what it turns up.


BTW, I think I'll replace the fuel filters and the O-ring on the shaft of the air bleed valve - along with the OPS and relay - just for good measure.

The new fuel filter will come with a new valve and o-ring. The top of the housing you see is actually part of the filter replacement. Make sure like said you use a A/C delco OPS replacement.
 
Valve on top of the filter is the air bleed. The brass t-valve by the thermostat is the water drain.
