i'm stumped.. i have a 94 k1500 suburban changed the back Cylinder's now i got back breaks..but the problem is that now my break peddle is soft..before this they where medium..now if i step hard on the breaks the front driver side locks up(abs)so i bleed them the x pattern and got all the air out ..but still the same with the peddle now do i need a master?.or do i need to bleed the abs?

Did you adjust the rear shoes to the point of when you turn the wheel by hand they drag enough to stop the wheel after 1 to 2 revolutions?

You should feel or hear them drag just a little. Does your e-brake hold the truck in gear? If not, adjust the rear brakes.

The e-brake pedal should not go more than 1/2 way through it's travel.

Make sure you dont run either side of the master cylinder resevoir out of fluid. That will kill it, or at a minimum put tons of air in the system. And are you doing a 2 person bleed procedure, making sure to be keeping constant increasing pressure on the pedal as you bleed momentarily.

yes i use 2 people system but do you need to bleed the abs? yes the reservoir is full. there is 2 bleeder fittings on the unit?. but never did that before? I was thinking the same thing the master. has anyone ever bleed an abs?..any info would help me out alot..thanks

I had a similar issue with mine after I blew a front brake line.

My normal attempts at bleeding it were unsuccessful...my normal procedure was to pump the pedal then release the pressure at the furthest wheel, working my way to the closet front wheel last, that did not work for me.

I had to crack the lines one at a time starting with at the ABS unit both the inlet & outlet lines slowly press the brake pedal to the floor with line fitting cracked & then re tighten before releasing the brake pedal. Followed by more of the same at each wheel cylinder furthest 1st closest last. That finally brought my pedal back to normal.

HTH's,

Good luck.
