still rattling

It's been suggested by several people, several times, to check the compression - obviously, you're
gonna keep doing it your way, so just let us know if you ever find out what it was

It sounds like an internal problem now, the scanner and the compression check would help in diagnosis. Or pulling the head off. If its just a busted valve then one new head is cheaper and easier than engine swap.

Assume you tried a different PMD already.

wtf dude? several people, several times? it was only one person one time.. doing it my way? I've been following the advice provided here.. if you cant contribute something positive please do not contribute at all

@buddy
I have a two month old pmd I got from leroy.
guess Im gonna have to pull the heads when I have some time.

Does the engine have a warranty? Does it cover shipping? Seen some people go through an install to find they got a bad used engine.

Do you know what is really wrong with your engine?
The factory engine oil cooler is recommended to be replaced for catastrophic engine failure.

I could see into the crankcase through the #1 piston on mine with the head off. But the sudden blowby blowing out valve cover gaskets and oil everywhere on the outside of the engine was a clear case to pull her out.

1 month warranty, 154k miles, seller claims ran good when pulled, holds 40 psi oil pressure at idle.. heck even if its bad I'd get my money back selling the IP, turbo etc.

Valves would be fairly easy to check with just the valve cover off. Take the rocker arm assembly off on the "dead" hole. and see what the valve stems are doing. Could be very easily be a broken spring. which if that is the case no need to pull the heads. Compare the seated height of the valves on 7 with 5 to see if closed height is the same which will tell you if its not seting completely. Then see if you can push the valve in to check spring tension. Hope fullly this helps. Keep on wrenchin you gotta be gettin close now.

If valves are OK then it could also be a collapsed lifter.

If there is a busted valve, like a chunk out of one side might not detect it from the valve cover, but its a good place to start. Might just find a rocker arm retainer off.

I had a rocker arm bolt come loose, had a little knock/rattle just occasionally,
couldn't find the problem until it actually broke, it ran bad then! Dumping fuel
in oil, shaking.......still din't know what it was, compression bad in 2 cylinders,
thought it was at least a head gasket, or blown piston. Pulled the motor out
to have room to work on it, (had other reasons for pulling it) and found the
broken bolt when I pulled the valve cover. :mad2:
