Does anybody have a good picture of the starter bracket while it is still mounted to the starter and the block? I have looked and looked and can not find one for the life of me.

I just found out that my truck may not have one  . I need a picture of it so my brother can double check that one is their or one is not their.

I did find a picture of one on a starter with the starter off the truck, but not one mounted on the truck that was visible. Is it something that you can get a picture of in its mounted position?

Thanks,

When I bought my '89 6.twoL, the bracket was missing. The dealer had one in stock, so I bought it, but they can be made from a piece of 1x1 inch angle if needed.

I started to de-mont and mount the ATT today so i thought I would take some more pix of the bracket....

Gentlemen, sorry for the quick hijack here, but I'm working in the same area here today. Doing my first starter R&R today. Question I have is the rear side of the heat shield, where does it attach to? Mine was just dangling there, and the tabs that attach to a bolt (somewhere) are kinda mangled and bent. Cant tell where they're supposed to go. Help, thanks!

Try a google search! I found alot of pics but, not a pic of the bracket in its mounted position. I will try a search myself and see what I can find. My search came up with no usefull pic. If nobody has one sooner, I will be home with my truck soon. I will take a pic for you!

The rear of the heat shield goes to one of the transmission bolts/studs. It's fairly obvious which one once you start looking. I can shoot a photo, but I won't be able to post it before tonight.

EDIT: I lied. It looks like it attaches to a bolt on the back of the exhaust manifold. Photo on its way...

RE-EDIT: This is a shot I had on my PC. I can get one on the truck tonight.

RE-RE-EDIT: Upon closer inspection, it does look like there is a bracket attached to the heatshield. I attached that bracket to the closest tranny stud when I was last under the truck hooking things up. It's a little bent out of place in the photos, but it's painted black; the shield is shiny silver.

Another one, still can't see exactly where it goes...

Thanks for the pics and hints on the heat shield gents. And again my apologies to Diesel Cash for the hijack. I tried bending the tabs in a couple different directions looking for an obvious fix, but nothing seemed to fit. I had to get the thing on the road, so I ended up just bending the tabs strait back and kinda wedged in between the exhaust mani and the block. Dont think anyone will notice it rattling a bit. Now, on to the next problem........

Just ordered a starter brace, anyone know the screw lenth / thread type of the bolt that holds the bracket to block
?

5 - Bolt M8x1.25x18 (So yeah, an 8MM bolt 1.25cm long, or real friggen close to 1/2" with pitch of 18 on the threads:D) packratt & 94K30 were right.
4 - Nut, Hex Lk (Lock?) 1/4-20X.257 (Sounds like a standard 1/4"x20 lock nut)
3 - Washer 1/4 I.D., 1/2 O.D. 1/16 Thick

On edit...why does it not surprise me that GM uses a mix of standard and metric fasteners?:mad2:
