Any real difference between them in their newest form? Aside of price what brand would you run?

Looks like I need one for the burb and it will get a remote bumper mount and high quality cable.

Weighing the poor design from Stanadyne till Flight Systems kicked their butts is a plus for FS. Till the Flight Systems were found to have noise or other issues causing the engine to run away. Hopefully fixed.

So what evil is less? (I may have the parts, but, a DB2 conversion is not in the plans now.)

I have had the grey stanadyne on my ip hooked up for close to 2 years with no problems. if that ever fails i have a old school black stanadyne on my bumper thats ready to go.

Grey Stanadyne is good stuff I believe.

The New designed Flight system too. The 1st design may have met some problem (surging engine), but from my own experience, I never had one back.

Stanadyne has earn enough money with their crappy PMD, and decided to upgrade only once Flight System ones appear on the market.

If a customer ask for the grey one, I will sell him a grey one, but my choice is flight system. Cheaper and as reliable as the grey stanadyne.

Also, with the flight system, you don't have to worry about having to buy a new harness or extension to match, or to have trim it to fit...

Flight system is a upgraded retro-engineered black stanadyne PMD (aka 34583), the grey Stanadyne is, IMHO, just a retro-engineered flight system

I was torn as to my vote. I have a Dtech and so far so good (2 yrs). I am glad they entered the market and forced stanadyne to step up the quality. Probably the latest version of either model is a good choice.

I have a D-Tech on the Heath system I purchased earlier this year. For the year before that I had another D-Tech off the rebuilt IP. No issues with either of them. Bought the truck with an SSD set up which was a Stanadyne and it worked fine (although I moved it to the bumper to ensure longevity).

You know I have to say something. But, I cant really add to much I agree with what everyone said so far.
The first FS PMDs were very good then they let the quality of the workmanship go to hell. They caught on quick and have fixed the problems. The Newest FS is a very good unit and in kit for costs alittle less than Stanadyne.
Stanadyne has 2 year warranty.
FS one year.
I've had one Stanadyne fail so far.
Zero of the newest FS have failed yet.

I got a new FS from Leroy, I had extended my original harness years ago and wanted a plug n play.

I replaced the stock PMD with an older FS a year ago. Now the FS is surging and causing runaway. I needed the truck back in service ASAP so I bought the only thing they had locally, a gray Stanadyne.

Of course, I forgot the connector is different, and the shop has a no return policy on electronics, so now I'm waiting on a harness.

Yeah, sometimes I can be an idiot. :D

A year or so ago my black Stanadyne PMD failed and left me stranded, replaced with FS under the bumper, a few months later it surged a lot and ran-away a few times...scary!
Summertime I got a grey Stanadyne from Leroy and been good so far.

A better pol would be "Who is the best PMD salesman?"

Leroy

He carries both so I don't see how I could go wrong.

Just seeing if there was any difference and anything to justify a higher price for one over the other...

Leroy

And thank you to.

Its a valid poll. I would want to know also if I were in the market.

Thanks Leroy!

Guess who the lucky guy was who I got that

No issues replacement was fast & without question! Leroy's customer service is 2nd to none top notch operation

IMO, both of them are bad but it is necessary. It is very dependent on the seller you get it from.

In this case, Leroy is the only source since he probably will not tarnish his reputation in this forum.
That is a common sense good business practice that is successful.

Either one you get from him should be fine.

Your right, it is good business. If you/customer are still in warranty why would'int I replace it?

All I can offer is that I'm running on from Bill. It's grey, but not a stanadyne. I looked at the name when I put it one, but can't remember off hand what it was.

Been working fine for a couple months now.

Bill offers a 7 year warranty and hinted that he would even replace it after that period depending on the conditions.

I've bought other items from Leroy and have gotten good service also. I do believe he also offers a 7 year warranty.

I also still carry an old spare pmd in the glove box for emergencies. For these trucks, I see it no different than carrying a set of jumper cables.

It's just good sense....

Would love to see a picture of it BJ.

Off subject: I see you double posted, I just replied to a post and it double posted me also. Just curious if a window came up to ask "do you want to leave this page" came up after you hit reply?

Leroy,
Could we have some clarification on your warranty please?

It was my understanding that the FS PMD was available at Heaths price point with the 7 year warranty and that the grey stanadyne was only a 1 year manufacturers warranty?

In this thread it is stated that the grey stanadyne has a 2 year warranty and in your sig a 5 year warranty is noted, please lay out what the warranty policy and price point is-unless that has to be put in the for sale section.
If so please spell it out for us there with a link here.
Thanx.
