Got a delivery from the man in brown today. Hoping Wednesday after the fat guy stuff is over, I can take care of this fat guy's truck and get er done. Going over the flow chart, I'm seeing some anomolies here between the SAC's and VCO's. The flow doesn't look to be much higher than 30 over EXERGY's were as I want to say they flowed 155-158 at 160 and 1700 whereas the sac 45's seem to be around 165-168, but looking in the lower pressure areas they flow ALOT less fuel. So I played around some with LLY tables, and the flow rates started making sense, so I'm going to do some playing around once I get it together and do some actual hands on testing to see whats what between the 2.
 
Only one place will let me order an exergy .30 over without the whole testing procedure...do you see any problem with just ordering the one I know I need outright without all this testing flow nonsense...afaic they are no longer a balanced set anyway...
 
If that is in fact your only bad one. Problem is if that doesn't do it and you end up getting a whole new set, you're now stuck with a new exergy 30 over, so if you wanted to switch to sacs, you got that one already. I know theres a shop in Kentucky that will go through yours, but I can't remember the name if there shop. Just to many problems with vco's for me to stick with them. Your other option is you could buy a set of nozzles and hope thats all they need.
 
Finally getting these put in. Made an interesting observation of them. The stock vco's have the orifices up high on the taper and all on the same plane to inject at the same angle. The sacs have a much smaller tapered tip and have the orifices split on 2 planes. I couldn't get a good picture, but you can definately see an orifice up high, then one out the taper so that 4 are high up and 4 are out near the tip of the nozzle. I'll post comparisons pics, but they don't show up very well, and I'm not about to pull apart one of the new ones just so I can spray test them to show the difference.1228161657.jpg 1228161658.jpg
 
1229161852.jpgGot the new injectors in last night, and did not get the best of results. Of the new ones, I have 2 that are borderline right out of the box with a fuel smell at idle. No hazing until I drive it, but not a happy camper right now. Called Lincoln, and they said that they don't do the sac's in house, and everything about them has to go to s&s. So I'm going to recover over the weekend, and try and pull it apart Sunday to send them back for testing.
 
Makes me like my 6.5 better all the time. Got a buddy that owns a shop and he says in his opinion most people are living beyond their means owning a newer diesel truck , average repair bill when they go in is 5-6k. I know I couldn't afford that.
 
Need to update this thread. I decided to adjust the tuni,g before going back into the engine, and I'm glad I did. These sac's are SENSITIVE to tuning. I'm not the happiest with the results, but I can definately live with them. Rail pressure, timing, pulsewidth, and getting the displayed fuel rate back to where the ecm wants it at idle made a world of difference. I'm still pulling fuel out of my tune trying to clean it up to my liking, but it's night and day difference in how the engine responds. It lights the turbo off like nobodies business, and pulls like a friggen freight train.

Here's what I ended up with after working the tune over some. Got the engine smoothed out now off idle, most all the grey hazing is gone, and the heavy fuel smell is cleared up now. Top is in park, bottom is in gear idling.

Been MIA for a while.....

But This Exergy thing has me worried. I replaced all 8 in my LBZ with their stock replacements at around 90k. I only have 115k on it and already lost one only a year after I put them in. had less than 10k on it. Exergy did warranty it. but hope the rest hold on.

Glad you got it back together and its running good.
