Yup, we all know it as the A team turbo.

I mean, who manufactures it?

Is it a Holset? Switzer? Garrett? IHI? Ford? Cummins? Isuzu?

I'm sure it's not a national secret, I just would like to know so I can look up specs and whatnot...and I'm a bit of a curious little monkey too.....

I thought it said in their Replacement Turbo thread?

The ATT is based off the TD-07 Mitsubishi, but differtent enough so that it has it's own specs, that Dennis put together, so while you might find TD-07 info it won't be exact, when evaluating both, I found the ATT to be a little crisper on acceleration than the TD-07 was

I drove an excavator with a Mitsu diesel with the td-07 turbo on it. It's way crisper on acceleration in a pickup truck ;>

There was the genesis of the thought to try a TD-07 Dan,

If an excavator at low rpm can go from no load to full load power quickly in a machine as heavy as an excavator, what would it do in a truck, IIRC Mitsu excavator engine was 6.9L ours a 6.5, so that was close enuff to have a look, also IIRC the TD07 is sufficient air for supporting 650 Hp.

When one compares the ATT to TD07 the compressor wheel of the ATT is more robust physical cast is thicker on the ATT.

So, is is sourced from Geddy (which modifies mitsu TD07's) or is it sourced from mitsu directly?

What type of housing is on it? IE: S, H, SH, etc..

Size of the wheel? IE: 16G, 25G, etc...

What would it's designation be? IE: TD07SH-25G

Or was that in the replacement turbo thread also? It's a pretty long thread, still chewing through it....

Also I don't think comparing an Industrial diesel from a piece of HE is a good comparision. Those engines in many cases use differnt IP's with different advance and the IP's have the torque group stacked differently. I had to make mods to a 3208T that came from a Machine and was put into my Oil truck. The AFC can also be different or set differently depending on the application.

GW over the years several types have been tried, of those tried most cost effective and nearly a "bolt on" install has been the ATT, and while not a national secret I will honor Slim Shady's request and keep the sourcing info propietary, as it is a custom build order to his specs. I will say this none of the vendors you have mentioned thus far are involved with the project, and this isn't a flash in the pan exercise, mine has been on for 2 years and has 30K or so miles of service.

For cost of a reman turbo you get a new turbo that works well with the 6.5, is it THE turbo IMO yes, but always somebody out there with a different fix to same problem, have a go at it, and if you can make it cost effective, or not a one off custom install roll with it. I will say this R&D isn't cheap

Mostly, I was wondering where rebuild parts/kits could be sourced for it. Most of what I've read about mitsu turbo's is that it's hit and miss for parts when rebuilding one. If this is an even more proprietary type, it might be even harder...

I was also wondering about numbers and specs to have a reasonable comparison to the stock -8 turbo, rather than a "it feels faster" impression.

I'm certainly not looking to "muscle in" on a market. If I ever go down that road, it will be for personal "one off" use only.

But, my -8 is only a bit over a year old so I'll be living with it for a while yet.

Keep in mind here, my background is NA gasser engines, Limited forced induction or diesel experience.

I'm still playing catch up here.

But with 15 years automotive experience (started when I was 15, 5 years apprentice/5 year journeyman) and 20 years in aerospace (10 year technician/10 year engineer) under my belt, I'm catching up fast....:)

GW, I too have been waiting for the complete test results on the ATT. I bought a '99 with an ATT on it and it definitely has more power, but it does not have near the mpg that some claim. It definitely runs cooler and has a lot more guts. How much of that is the turbo vs the Heath GL4, who knows. Still, I like it and would get another.

There are rebuild kits, and parts are available as needed. The turbo should not need much if kept properly oiled, I think Turbine doc has the most miles of anyone with one, I have about 18,000 on mine and it is still solid.

I think the ATT thread in the performance section has a great deal of what you may be looking for.

 I don't know what additional information you are waiting for, I've posted everything I have collected thus far.

I'm not sure on your mpg loss, possibly more right foot on the APP :D yours is one of the only ATTs I seen posting a loss of mpg, for info what is age of your injectors, I was down to 15-16 on my mpg, replaced the injectors (160K on them) I'm back up to 18-19 mpg @ 2100-2200 rpm on engine

Big T, this was hashed out before. Until you swap turbos you can't say why one Sub gets better mpg than the other. No two vehicle are the same. Everyone else claims to get better mpg's with the ATT except you, are we all wrong?
