Snow plow truck?

I looked at a truck today for a plow truck. Ive been thinking about getting one to try and make a little extra money in the winter.

Its a 1992 chevy 3/4 ton 4wd with a 3in body lift and 4l80e. It has a western plow on it. The truck has broken windsheild, rotted out cab corners and rusty fenders. It also needs tires and I think some ball joint work. The plow has a little rust and a lot of coats of paint but isnt in bad shape other then it looks bad.

The odometer has 175,000 on it but he said the transmission is new and the engine is newer. I think he said like 60k on the engine and the transmission has like 1200 on it.

Hes asking 3k for it, do these make good plow truck?
 
As you know DB2 trucks are reliable so that should be a plus. It seems alot of people on this forum use their trucks for plow trucks so there must be something good about them.
 
You will need a very good working fan clutch. The plow blocks all the wind from the radiator. I had my 95 ld overheat when it was below zero.
 
Mine was awesome, lots of torque is what makes a good plow truck. Well, torque and traction. And patience. And coffee.

That sounds pretty pricy though. Only time mine ever got hot was travelling on the highway, simply couldn't do it. Big plow and a very small grille area. I made a plexi air foil that bolted to my light tower to direct air into the grille area. But as for plowing, I could work it hard at low speeds for hours and the fan clutch always did it's job. Weird how it couldn't do it on the highway. I think maybe the wind creates a dead spot or vacuum or something between the blade and the grille.
 
Seems a little high to me also, the front bumper is rotted off too. I guess its like any old car or truck, you could never sell it for the amount of money you have into it.
 
I had a 93 k2500 reg cab 4l80 with 4.10 gears. Truck was mechanically identical to the 92 I have now. It was one of the best plow trucks I have ever had, and I have owned many. I sold it to a friend of mine 9 years ago and he still plows snow with us with it to this day. Body is pretty rough now, but mechanically great. It has an 8.5' Western UniMount plow.
 
I think Im going to try and get my chevy up forsale andmaybe buy this one. I dont need any more vehicles laying around.
