Slow on fire up

Does it hit then stay on the starter or fire off and runs smooth once it starts?

Air in the lines will delay starting.
Injectors that stick open will allow some cylinders to hit but the engine stalls back on the starter when the air locked injectors do not fire.

A clear return line on the IP watched while cranking will tell you if air in the lines is an issue. Air can enter the system from any leak and drain the system overnight.

Once it starts, it runs. It might fire a cylinder during starting to get you to think it's ready to go, but it's not. It's just enough to speed up cranking a little bit. No skipping, jumping, stalling, etc.

Now, if there were a way to access the engine compartment well enough to install a piece of clear tubing.... the van body is really not service person friendly.

Again checking for air is the first step. You can also check for air in the injector return lines to verify the sticking injector issue as shown below. The main fuel system needs to be free of air for that to be valid IMO.

This is from cheap rebuilt injectors sticking open. Had 30K on them. The air in the injector lines has to be purged out each start after sitting overnight. It was breaking starter drives. I changed the IP and no joy. I pulled an injector to test and it was sticking open. I then overhauled the engine and replaced the injectors. (Hint: never drop anything in the intake ports. :rolleyes5: )

With new quality rebuilds it hits and then is running. None of the skipping on the starter...
