Service Airbag warning on DIC and idiot light?????

Wow. These things aren't cheap to fix when something goes wrong with the SRS system. Are you getting any dash warning lights Mike?

When I cranked up the truck yesterday I got a "Service Airbag System on the digital display. I said Oh S8$$!! as I had been following this thread. I had the batterries disconnected for three months while I was redoing the transmission. After I drove it around the block and was back in the driveway I check for a trouble code and there wasn't one. I then turned the motor off and restarted it. The message cleared. Scared the heck out of me.

Airbag light. I had it diagnosed at the dealer when I had it in to replace the TCCM and a couple of other things. We're talking Karla's '07 Tahoe. NOT my truck.

Ahhh. OK Mike. I thought it was your Duramax.

It's in the digital display on the dash. The one that has the door agar and the digital odometer reading

Yup. On the DIC. Service Airbag Soon. The light showing the sealtbelt/Airbag type figure is lit up. Go figure. I just can't win. I was driving today, and the light came back on. I got home and took off the sensor underneath the radiator. Right in the middle. There was a little corrosion between the sensor and the chassis where it is screwed on. There was no corrosion at all inside the electrical connection. I wire brushed the threads on the bolt and the chassis connection. I put a little never seize on the threads and bolted it back up and reconnected the sensor. It is still on, but I hope it clears itself again. if not, I will buy the sensor from Rock Auto and try that. :mad2:

Just an update: I was trying to locate the impact sensors on my truck, and I could only find one. Most of the information on the internet show that the Silverado's have two sensors located underneath the radiator. I wrote to Dorman to see if I was missing something, as I could only locate the one directly under the center of the radiator. They responded back to me stating that my 2006 2500HD Duramax Crew Cab only has one impact sensor. I just wanted to keep this thread current and accurate. My impact sensor (DORMAN Part Number 590-204) will be in this week. I will install it and see if this clears the warning light.

My Email to DORMAN
Subject: Impact Sensor 590-204

Hi: I have a Chevrolet 2006 Silverado 2500HD 6.6 Diesel Crew Cab 4x4, and I saw the video produced by Dorman regarding changing the 2 impact sensors. I have been getting the service airbag soon light on my DIC, so I checked out the locations shown in the video. I scanned the truck with a SRS reader and I got DTC Code BO104. I can only find 1 impact sensor on my 2500HD, located dead center under the radiator. Is there supposed to be 2 of these? Any help appreciated. And is the part number 590-204 the same for both, if I have 2 of them? My OEM part number is 10370150 and it shows MD Singapore on the sensor. No corrosion or moisture at all in or on the OEM sensor.

How long are the Dorman sensors warrantied for?

Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you.

DORMAN's response back to me:

Yes the 590-204 is the correct one for your truck.
The GM parts catalogue only lists it as having 1 sensor. Most trucks have 2, but there are some that only use 1.

Dorman offers a limited lifetime warranty. Any warranty claims are handled by the point of original purchase. Dorman warrants its products to be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. This warranty is voided by non-recommended use, improper installation, or physical damage.

I installed the new impact sensor from Dorman, started the truck, and after going through the system check, the light reset itself.
$62 later, no more light! ___ ;)

I had bad luck with doorman electrical. Please let us know if it has problems and/or the limited lifetime warranty. Hope it works out, law of averages says they gotta get a home run somewhere, maybe this is it.

Thanks Mike. I still do not understand what the issue was with the original sensor, as it was in perfect condition with no cracks or signs of damage or moisture. :???:
But with a simple change, it took care of the annoying issue.
Plus this is a good reference for anyone if they have this type of issue in the future.

I'm finding the front airbag sensors are very common to fail on our trucks causing the light. My truck, my dad's and my buddy's truck all had it happen. Haven't fixed mine yet.

Where are those located?
