I did a quick search and didn't find much info, so I'm hoping some of you with experience will weigh in.

I'll be installing all the plugs in my block soon. I have brass freeze plugs for coolant and a steel one for the cam of course. And then also there are the screw-in plugs as well. What do you guys use to seal the plugs in the block? Or do you use nothing on them?

I haven't looked yet to see what my Haynes manual says, but after it told me to torque the 10mm main cap bolts to 100 ft-lbs (which I didn't do, I did a search on the interwebs and found the right spec), I don't trust what that manual says too much anymore anyway.

Thanks in advance!

Nate

i use permatex black aviation sealer in the can for freeze plugs not in coolant, 3m yellow weatherstrip adhesive for freezeplugs that go into coolant passages, and the GM thread sealer for the screw in ones(and head bolts into coolant passages).

Thanks. I just ordered the stuff Ferm uses off Amazon this afternoon though.

NAPA carries the black aviation sealer in a can, and also the yellow permatex. I know alot of machine shops use the black permatex aviation sealer for all of them, but I've had a couple weep for the 1st few hours using it.

I went to my local Napa and they didn't have the aviation sealer so I ordered it off Amazon. How do you mean they weeped at first? When you used the aviation sealer on plugs in coolant passages instead of the yellow weatherstrip adhesive you recommended?

Just a few drips for the 1st hour or 2 with coolant in the block. They all sealed up after they were heat cycled.
