scat vs pen crank in 95 block?

The DS4 is a 4 plunger pump, and I thought the big plungers were .330", not that it matters much.

Thanks for the info on the performance DB2's, I've looked a little bit at Kennedy's pumps (300HP marine DB2 for 1200) and need to call Pen' yet as their website is somewhat lacking. I don't know much about the DB4, but if reliability is an issue then the custom work to run it isn't worthwhile as far as I'm concerned.

Well, the reliability issue on the DB4 was brought up by Matt, but I don't have diddly squat for experience with the DB4, -except that I got to play with some Deere engines on the dyno that had DB4's on 'em.

As far as the differences in plunger size on the DB2's go, I haven't a clue, -it is merely what I was told. They could very likely be .330", -I don't know, because I don't have an EXACT stanadyne prefix number for the Pen pump, -and I've never had one apart.

Matt assured me that their DB2 could easily make enough fuel to be knocking on the 400HP door. Again, -hear-say.

I'd love to try one out just for the heck of it, -but I don't have an extra $1000+ lying around to play with IP's when the one I have now works just fine, -I'm sure you can all relate.....

As far as Penn diesel's website not being real great, -it hasn't been great, -EVER!! Iffin' ya need answers, -your best bet is to always pick up the phone and give Matt a call.

Hey busted wrench: your last post describes the engine work I would like to do for my 92 dually and my feelings are that going to the work and expense to do it right that a forged crank is the way to go- if you can afford it or maybe just have to save up an extra month to buy the better crank.
Then not have to worry about fatigue life etc.

The new military Hummvee optimizer 6.5 is running a forged crank , not a cast scat.

When I do my 92 It will get a penn crank, but Ive put the 92 on hold and going to get by with my 85 K30 until after I get my shop built and I move up to my property in the woods :D Dave

davo727: I'm feeling the same way, I mean yeah, $500 is a chunk of change, but on the other hand, it's nothing if it adds even 20 or 30K to the service life of your engine. And from what I'm hearing, it'll add a lot more than that.

Put it on the list, along with a marine DB2 and an ATT . . . Already have $500 worth of ARP studs in my basement.
