SAE #3 vs GM Bellhousing

Alrighty, got an update for ya'll. Yesterday, I drove 9 hours (round trip) to pick up some parts. I scored an allison 4x4 trans, tcm, transfer case, driveshafts, & a full float 11.5 AAM 4.10 rear end out of a 8.1 truck. All of this for $500!

I know FERM was suggesting to use the A40 tcm. This one looks way different. Will I be able to run the one I just picked up or should I get an a40 tcm still?

The a40 is if you wanted a 6 speed. If it's rectangular with a red and grey plug, it's a 5 speed tcm. I've heard they will default to a wired tps just like an a40 will(you must use the allison tps I've heard, it has a different output range from most others).

Ok, gotcha. So if I want the 6 speed, I gotta get an A40. Ok perfect! I'll sell this tcm & the electronic shift transfer case & get a manual shift case & a40 instead.

The medium duty Allison's run the SAE housing and a different C5 assembly for the larger yoke. And the only difference between a 1000 and 2000 are the gear ratios. I do conversions at work. I run a medium duty operation system in the TCM with a TPS sensor to control them. Gear ratios can be changed with EFI live. So you can take any combination of allisons and make it work tuning whise. I used parts off a 2000 to convert a 1000 to medium duty on a f800 project. I swapped out the 545 because the compounds where to much for that transmission.
Hi there I am trying to do a conversion on my 12v 5.9 cummins similar to yours. I have a at545 allison right now. I would like to go with a allison 1000 out of duramax 5500 . But I need a wire harness and tcm. I see you are in ohio. I am also in ohio. Where did you get your harness when did your conversion? I appreciate your assistance thanks.

We took it out of a donor truck, There is a company that sells Allison conversion kits. you could probably get a harness from them though.
