runs like CHIT in 1st, but HAULS in 2nd+

Maybe I ought to stay away from Pensacola Injectors....I was thinking about buying a set

I got 2 more in today to put in tommorrow, but #6 is far enough out it warrants replacement now and #8 is following right behind it. The more I run it the worse they get. I posted over on McRats forum and a few members over there have had similiar problems with them. I'm watching a set of GM ones on Ebay now as I REALLY need to get this thing going again and now I don't have a core set to send in. It will also be interesting to see how PENSACOLA handles this as they say they won't do a refund after they have been installed. I should have returned them right away as they nozzles sure didn't look like BOSCH nozzles like they told me they were. After pulling one apart I am almost 100% certain these are not BOSCH nozzles. The 2 I pulled out of it for the first problem ones already had rust on the nozzles after only 30 miles and 3 months.

I know that most people do things with a budget in mind, and it's OK to cut where it won't matter much, but the injectors on an LB7 have a track record of failures.

That being said, give Guy Tripp a call at Socal Diesel and get a set of injectors that are balanced and flow properly.

:D

Good Luck.

BTW, is that transmission tune figured out yet ???

I'm gonna give GUY a call. I didn't know who did the balanced injectors. The trans tune is working for the most part. I'm still getting 2 codes everytime I start it, but they history codes not current. Also the grade braking is not working either. I want to get the injectors sorted out and the engine running properly right now.

How do you know the grade braking isnt working? You need a steep hill for that to come on. Does tow haul engage?

Tow haul mode engages, but I get no downshifts at all when in tow haul, not even the 5-4 downshift when I hit the brakes. I tried out the grade braking before I pulled it from the donor and it would downshift as soon as I touched the brakes. I think it has something to do with the fact that I don't have the ABS hooked into the bus for it to get the front 2 wheel speed sensor readings.

How long did the motor sit while doing the repower? If things sat too long it is very possible that you need to run it for awhile to settle things down in the engine itself. Since you pulled the heads and all if you haven't run it at normal operating temperatures and put a hundred or so miles on it, I would. This is going to show you a couple of things before you tear into it more. It will give things a chance to settle in and anything that's going to change should show itself by then. How old is the diesel in the tank? Injector are touchie when they get old fuel and possible contamination in them. Try a quart of ATF in with clean diesel and run a tank through it, this may help settle it down. There is only a few shops that can really flow common rail injectors and check them. I would make sure that whoever you try has the equipment to do it in house or you just buying a reman set that you can get from anyone else.

Flow matched doesn't really mean much unless you know what they mean when saying it. There are flow matched nozzles, flow match injectors ect. but what does it mean? Flow match within 1%, 5%, 10%,25%............. are they flow matched at one test point, two test points or what. This is the problem out there as there is no standard that any of the injector builders work to and a big reason for the problems. If all you want is a sure bet go to GM and get a set of factory injectors with warrenty!

The engine didn't sit but for maybe 2 or 3 months during the repower. The fuel was treated with biocide and was running fine in the donor. I just want a good set of injectors that are going to go more than 10 miles without the balance rates going out of spec. This is 7 injectors out of 10 from PENSACOLA that have gone to high balance rates. The first 10 miles it was fine and then 2 went up, replaced them and the 2 replacements were even furthur out. Now 3 on the other side are steadily climbing as I drive it more. I just wish now I would have left the originals in it and ran it now.

True.

Ive got 30,000 miles on my set. At idle cold, they jump a little. Warm they are real close. At any throttle they all flow the exact same.....and have since day one. In drive, brake on, exact same. Rail pressure maintains 25k.

Unfortunately Ive been through 3 sets of GM injectors.

Did you try adding the ATF in a tank and running it yet? if that changes it then I woould get some stock ones from GM as they at least carry a warranty.

I already had lubricity additives in the fuel. I ordered GM injectors TUESDAY as they gave me dealer trade price which brought em down under $2K with the 1 year warranty(I do quite a bit of business with em too). The last straw was when I was waiting for my 2 replacements the 3 on the other side developed high balnce rates, then when the 2 other replacements came in it started puffing grey smoke out at idle every once in awhile.

Well I spent 8 1/2 hours today in the shop and got all 8 of the PENSACOLA injectors out and the GM ones in. The PENSACOLA nozzles are in fact BOSCH as they are the same as the ones that are in the GM units, I guess BOSCH drastically changed the markings on there nozzles. BUT, there is a HUGE difference in the quality of work between the 2 sets. I didn't have my camera with me when I was doing the work, but the GM units are actually completely redone. They have new solonoids on them, they are all thoroughly cleaned and refinished, new nozzles, and appeared to have new fittings installed in them where the fuel lines connect. The only pieces that look replaced on the PENSACOLA units was the nozzles. Also 6 of the PENSACOLA injectors had signs of fuel leaking from them by the nozzle area when I was inspecting them. I didn't get to drive it tonight, but it sounds COMPLETELY different now with the GM units in it. It fires up without loping now and the engine is actuallly smooth now. Before on the 1200 idle it would move almost an inch and a half at the top, not it doesn't budge. Even my wife said right away it sounded different now. So I'm hoping for the best and should know tommorrow about how it runs.

:partay::partay:

SHE'S ALIVE AND WELL!! The new GM injectors run AWESOME! This thing runs like a charm now, even fixed my harsh 3-4 shift I had that I thought was my TRANSGO. This thing is one touchy SOB now though, you look at the pedal and it's on boost and goin. I'm glad to see the blue and grey smoke gone, but now maybe it's time to make some black smoke:D.

good news. glad you got her going. the gm injectors may be more money, but when new they are definately better than other options. although the design sucks period.

Damn man, glad the OEMs got it right! Pensacola ought to make it right for you somehow... Of course that would be admitting that their work sucks.

Hey Joe, nice av):h

They said they would refund my money minus a $25 restocking fee and return shipping, we'll see. I sent them back to em today so I can hopefully get a set of cores back before the end of the week to send GM's set back. I should have went with GM in the first place, for the extra $711(after I get my cores back) they cost me to buy they were well worth it for the quality difference. The old saying holds true here, you get what you pay for.
