Running Too Much Boost, And Blew A Head Gasket.

I figured it was about time to give an update on the truck since installing the new heads, etc.. I've puts just a little over 3000 miles on the truck in the last 2 months, and the coolant level has never budged, its always full, the engine isn't leaking from anywhere, and the oil level is still on the full line with over 3000 miles on it. Thats a bit strange, as previously it would be down 1/2-3/4 qt after 3000 miles. I did replace both the batteries recently with a set of 800 CCA Continental batteries with the 3 year free replacement warranty, but other than that I haven't done anything to it.
I think its about time to get back to work, and start moving forward on the WMI, as well as a dual needle IAT intercooler gauge setup. :D I've been a bit preoccupied with another project recently. I collect old stationary engines, and I've been restoring an old IHC LB flywheel engine, but its about done, so I'll get back to work on my truck. Pics of the engine below.

Imagine that, it's red...:D

That's great news on the heads, Matt. Weird about the oil consumption dropping since the swap.
Yep, I like red, and it just so happens, that was the factory color for this IH. :D It was rather strange to see the oil level not dropping at all after the head work.
The guides in the old heads must have been letting some oil by.
I guess, it was either the guides, or all those WOT high boost runs leading up to my blown head gasket finally seated the rings in properly. :D
What's your MPG, sheesh. :p
Quit being so PUSHY TVM! :D With the cruise set at 70, and only my tools in the bed it does 18. However, my average is 16, and I've seen as low as 14 when I've been driving really hard.

Love the old Listers to date I've found nothing that can beat them driving a power head for cheap electricity even remember places I've been around the globe where the quite putter of an old Lister told me they were off the grid but with power!

Awesome news. Gotta get my taxes done this weekend and its raining or I'd have the new engine in mine.

I really like the old Lister Diesels, and would like to add one to my collection someday, but they still command a pretty high price even today.

Thanks Leroy, and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing your engine running. :)

Do you run anything with your hit-n-misses? It's nice seeing then running at shows, but it's even more fun to see them running stuff like water pumps or something like that. It's fun seeing them retrofitted to lawn tractors too.

I've only recently started collecting the larger hit n miss type engines, but I would like to get an old buzz saw, or pump jack to run with them. I have a relatively large (50+) collection of air cooled 30's-50's engines, and one of them (42 Briggs WI), powers my old bench grinder here at the house. You can see it in the background mounted to the bench in this video.

My youtube channel has quite a few of my old engines in it, as well as my old garden tractors. There is even one of me doing a ridiculous wheelie on my old 74 Wheel Horse B80. :D

That's really cool Matt! I really dig the lever start on that Briggs and the one hooked to the grinder is a serious setup, me like!

I've done a few garden tractor wheelies in my day, but never as well as that one....that was insane!! Looks like I have a YouTube channel to subscribe to....:watching:

Yep, I like the old garden tractors, and was very close to owning an old 16 hp Sears Roper not to long ago, but it didn't pan out, as the owner was a flake. I currently have a Wheel Horse C-160, and B-80. A Case 222, and a 444, and a 1952 Bantam 3000 that I gave to my son. Its a fun hobby, but you already know that. :)
