Running Spring Clamps...

attachment.php
Well that was quick customer service...I just got off the phone with Timbren and they are sending me out two new rubbers(550-65) that are only 4" instead of the (535-65(?) which is 5"

Rep said the rubber should have about an inch of clearance from the axle pad...I really don't think the 4" is going to give us a 1" clearance either...

Here is a chart of Timbrens Double Convolution AEON Hollow Rubber Springs...

I think you will be all set with the new rubber. It looks as if it is shorter (3 3/4 ") in height, larger in circumference (5 7/8 "), and gives you a much better (11,500 lb) bump load capacity. Should be better for towing.

I Ordered them from All Season. $40/Pair or $75 for 4.

I got only 2 for the Front of the Pack, I read you only Use 4 if you're Pulling, and 2 for Drag Racing.

Just to clarify a couple of things, this thread originally started out as spring clamps http://allseasondieselperformance.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=86

Then it morphed into Timbrens SES Rubber Spring Bumpers. http://www.timbren.com/easy-installation2.htm

I was confused at first, so I just wanted to clarify for our members.

well I put on the Timbrens today... :(

They are definitely not for trucks with the sulastics shackles...IMO

The rubber is too tall and the truck empty sits on them...I think it even raised the rear of the truck from being level to ever so slightly higher than level...you can feel the road more...all of it!

I just went and hooked up the trailer and it didn't even squat...so trailering (2/3's my driving) it seems will do betterand without the weight lifting off the front torsions it should control the loads better...I'll know more tomorrow when I put it on the interstate and then next Tuesday on my longer haul day...

I think if the rubber spring were shorter or if the sulastics weren't on there they wouldn't be preloaded on the rear axle...

does anyone know if on a stock truck the timbrens ride preloaded on the rear axle?

I think I'm going to give Timbren a call to see if they could find a solution I think we need the rubber to be shorter...

I wonder if they have that exact same rubber maybe an inch and a half to 2 inches shorter...

Ed once you put yours on let me know as well ...

on edit: I wonder if my stock springs could have sagged this much...I leave my work trailer hooked most of the time...hmmmm.

...also wondering if the timbrens could be cut down some....

Damn, I wouldn't have Thought in a Million Years that it woulda made the Ride Worse.

It's for the sole fact that the rubbers are supposed to have an inch clearance when unloaded, giving the suspension some room to move and the shocks to do their job...right now when you hit any bump it is transmitted straight through the rubber spring to the frame it's not overly harsh, but you feel the road more...

I pulled the trailer for a little while today(30mi.)mostly interstate (some off) the ride and feel of the truck loaded was a 100% improvement over stock with sulastics while towing...

Paul I haven't recieved mine yet. Maybe I should measure the distance from the frame to axle and see if I'll have the same problem as you. I don't want any rougher ride that I already have unloaded. Thanks for the update.

Also maybe a mod can seperate this thread as I have sucessfully derailed this one  :)

To late Ed! :rof: That is why I put the clarification post in there. We can get a little taste to what the 6.5ers go through. Anything goes in their threads! :rof:

Put the Clamps On this Morning and Ran my Morning Errands...DAMN!! I should have Installed these a LONG Time ago.

The Truck now has a more Positive Feel, Less Jittery when going over Expansion Joints, Corners Flatter, it just Rides 100x Better now.

If my Truck was still Lowered with these On, Hanging Corners would have been REAL Fun! ;)

??? I think he's talking about the spring clamps Jeff...not the timbrens...unless thats what you meant...

The spring clamps when put on did give the truck a better feel as James said...

I'll have to get a couple pics up of the "Dura-Clamps"

mine are a bit different than the ones from all season...the Dura-Clamps are over engineered...you could put em' on a dump truck and they would do just fine...nothing like a little added insurance though...
I'm still interested in a pic there Pepp. I do believe I can fab up a set and would like a refresher on 'Dura-Clamps'

I'm not doing all out racing or pulling but frequently I have to power through heavy snow and the axle wind up is pretty severe. I do believe clamps would help and I wanted to see your install.

I put clamps on 3+ years ago and left them on.

The ride is a hair stiffer, and the truck has a slightly lower stance unladen. It also really will lay rubber without much effort. :D

You ain't Kidding about it being Easy to Lay some Wheel now...Holy Crap!

After I got my Trans Built, I had to Readjust my Driving in the Rain, now with the Clamps, I gotta do it again.

I guess when I get back home I'll need to contact Timbren about some smaller sizes. If yours are setting on the axle mine will be too long. I have the 2" drop shackles on mine.

Spring Clamps

Do the spring clamps replace the OEM spring clamps? Where do they bolt up to on the springs? Is there a photo of the spring clamps bolted on?

dang...I knew I forgot to do something today(picture of Dura-Clamps installed)

Jeff... they clamp the end of the helper/overload spring to the main spring pack...you place the clamp about an inch or two from the end of the helper/overload spring...
