I loosely toyed with the idea of drilling out the closed side of a ball valve to 1/4 inch and putting that in the crossover hose so you could have the best of both worlds. In winter not towing, just open it up. In summer closed the ballvalve but it will still have 1/4 opening. Probably be a PIA to drill one out Would have to dimple it for sure to drill it.
If Heath is saying use the restrictor, and GM offers it..I'd say it's good. Water moving too fast is no good either as it can't absorb heat which is why if you take the stats out, you overheat fast. Now with the 180's I'm running under 180 they should be closed over 180 it should be circulating alot. I'm sure Bill took this into consideration since he designed the orignal balance flow system and besides the older single stat system blocks the bypass almost completely(it's not a tight seal but it covers the hole). I wouldn't mind building his balance flow setup like TD has. Gotta look at it again. Me thinks the lines must be tied in post thermostat otherwise it could have just been T'ed into the bypass hose instead of welding a nipple to the stat housing. Also that would allow coolant to flow from the back of the heads into the rad ?? Hmmm.....Gotta find those TD pics. Damn his truck was righ here in my driveway. I could took some good pics of it but my Flight systems junk pmd had us all scratching our heads and me distracted.
