Replaced serp belt 2 day A/C squeal?

If it starts to slip again scuff the clutch to get rid of the glazing, or now that you pinpointed it you can replace it and hopefully be done with it for a long time .I'm Happy you found the issue. Good luck with your other preventitive issues.

Pulled the belt spun the alternator it seems fine, the tensioner seems fine, the belt & tension of the belt appear to be OK.

Pulled the AC compressor bolts so I could lay it on it's side and sprayed the clutch assembly down with some brake cleaner & then chased that out with silicon lube about five times. Reinstalled the AC compressor & ran the motor with the ac off at 1st & then for about 15 minutes more...lubing the clutch assembly while kicking the AC on & off about 50 times or more. No squeal...we'll see how long it last...?

Oriley's parts has the clutch assembly a Murray - Reman Gm Frigidaire/Harrison R4 Radial Clutch assembly Part Number: 48656 for $92.99 in stock along with the puller that you can use free with a deposit return.

Back to my regular concern about replacement parts that can't make it past my next oil change interval

Oriley's is where I got the garbage reman compressor... Not that any other reman would have been any better. New is the key here and what you want. The puller tool kit they have will do the job. Be aware of the nut that some compressors have on the crankshaft. For some reason the reman units have one... 14mm thin wall socket will be needed.

You do not "lube" clutches or brakes. Will cause them to slip, get hot, and/or not work or burn up. Cleaning with brake clean is a good idea. Possible the grease seal is gone on the bearing and the lube shut it up - this is a bad thing as no grease seal means a bearing lockup in short order.

Ok thanks for sharing that.

I'm gonna be keeping a close eye on it. Still concerned about what name brand to purchase. No brand name part is sacred anymore today, I guess it's a grab shoot.

What "new" replacement brand did you go with?

I just got the warranty replacement compressor and swapped clutches. (Saved freon, measuring oil etc.) Again any brand that is "New" vs. re-manufactured/rebuilt is the way to go. I would not be surprised if they offered a rebuilt clutch. Just make sure it is new. Dealer and AC Delco can be made in China now. So yeah good luck. A good local AC shop can say what brand is trustworthy for them and maybe sell you the part.

Credit due - the clutches were refinished on the rebuilt by 'four seasons' compressor. Looks like metal fatigue was the cause. Who knows how many miles and rebuilds it had seen.
