Is my A/C compressor getting ready to chit the bed? It sounds fine, cools great but will squeal my new surp belt after the motor is hot occasionally when I 1st kick it on for 2~3 seconds...

I'm getting ready to go on a 1200 mile fishing trip and I do not want to get stranded. Any advice would be appreciated thx!

Check your pressures on the a/c system high side before you condemn the compressor. And thats providing the belt and tensioner are all working as they should.

How old is your tensioner? As they age they will bind internally because the plastic bushing wears through. Then it is aluminum on aluminum. I'm using Dayco no slack tensioners on the last 3 engines. No squeels yet. I get them at rockauto.com Under $40. They are a little different style from oem. Dayco 89326 works for 91-95 6.2 and 6.5

Yup that is what I installed made in America brand new Dayco $35 bucs, could had bought the cheaper one for $20 :mad2::mad2:

The tensioner looks new & the belt tension looks seems reasonable

I will check the pressure again, it was right on the money and it cools great & runs quiet once its running after it has the fit...only squeals the belt on the initial start up when turned on after it has been run a while never in the AM & never after the initial fit?

NAPA/Gates heavy duty. Around $45

Check closer that Dayco.

As the belt was new, I suspected the tensioner and changes it, still squealing :mad2:,
suspected then the alternator, : swap it with a brand new HD one, still squealing :biggrinjester:

finally changed the belt and everything went OK...

Yipes Ok got ya.

Yea this only does it occasionally after ya stop hot & restart it & turn on the AC, but it has my full attention.

It is kinda hard for me to believe the AC compressor is bad, it runs quiet as a church mouse & blows cold...

The tensioner also moved as it should when I replaced the belt, no roughness to it while moving it up away during the belt replacement.

The AC compressors on '95s knock like hell when the go, only with the AC on. They don't bind and squeal the belt.

The tensioner pulleys go out. Your little test for roughness while moving it to replace the belt is not enough IMO. You need to remove the belt, test for play /wear/roughness in the wheel. They start screaming when they go out.

Ok can do, the belt comes off in a jiffy will do.

The other issue I'm having is the SOB never does it when I can be under the hood...and maybe attempt to diagnose it, not that I would be able too anyway it only last for a few seconds then it stops...and it always when I turn on the AC

Has the belt stretched? I have been having bad luck with new belts lately. The "Green Stripe" Gates are the only ones I have found locally that don't stretch.

The only pressure gage I have is for the low side only, like one that comes along with the R134 & I'm no AC man but me thinks that is the low side...correct?

You are correct. Might see 110/120 on the low side between cycles of the comp.

The reason I say high side is thats where the real pressure is.
Anything above 350 at anytime {running or off) there is a cooling problem on the condenser.

Normally when the system is off both high and low will balance out after a short time.

Maybe but that is why I changed the belt today, but it did not help. I should have gone with the green gates belt, but I don't think its the belt.

I'm gonna check that tensioner more closely tomorrow.

Do you start the truck with the ac turned on,or turn it on after it's running. If you start it with the ac on it shoudn't slip.If the back side of the belt is glazed [shiny, slick] it will slip due to the initial lock up of the ac/clutch. Try scuffing the belt with 220/320 grit sand paper or scotch brite pad to verify that it's the belt, if it stops for the next few days or on/off cycles than the belt is the culprit. The ac clutch could be slipping on inital lock up also. there is a recommended air gap between the clutch and it may be out of spec. or the clutch is glazed . do the sand paper trick with the ac off and engine running, scuff the clutch and if the noise goes away you will need a new ac clutch soon.

Yes. You can get it from a/z or advance if you buy the clutch from them to use for free. It's almost like a p/s puller. try starting it with the ac on and see if that helps. If after you scuff the clutch and it stops the squeal keep starting the truck w/ac on to buy some time until you can replace it.
