MGW did a really nice write-up on the Lock and Stitch method about a year and half ago on the Page. If I recall, there was a lot of description and more than a picture or two.
 
L&S while a viable option in some instances not always 100% applicable, we use L&S in Diesel locomotive world often as well, if you can find a local L&S certified shop it is worth getting their opinion on repairability.
