reliable 6.5td

I thought I had read somewhere that the SuperTech was actually not a bad quality of oil considering its price...

are you sure that stuff is for diesels. if it isnt i would go change soon. oil needs to be designed to take all the soot the diesel makes

SuperTech has the same rating as the Delo & Rotella, I'm cheap but not stupid. Been running it in my ol' 7.3 for about the last 100K or so...& it just turned 330K but it does use a fair amount especially if I'm towing anything.

As long as it's an SAE rated oil it should be fine. I ran Black Bear in my 6.2 and they all lasted well past 280k and were still running when sold.

I agree with the guys -

2500 to 3000 for 'normal' changes (3 month intervals) - don't forget to grease it as well.

5000 to 6000 (maybe a bit more) if you are running mostly on the expressway/freeway.

The little family minivan is currently at around 175K, same engine. It's a gutless gasser, but I've been changing the synthetic in it every 3000-5000 miles, and it doesn't use oil and pretty much runs the same as when it was new. No weird smoke, starts the first time every time, and has been hauling my kids around for the last 16 years !!! I figure the diesel rigs will go even further with proper care.

Supertech is good oil. Most of the oil is made by the same places... additives change by brand, but base stock is the same for oils you buy from most major retailers.

Synthetics or Higrades are a different story.

Want even cheaper oil?

Buy it in the 20 L pails at walmart in the automotive section - it will have a picture of a tractor on it - for farm use of course...LOL!

what if your truck spends more time in the driveway than the highway. i am currently using rotella synthetic, but i would be lucky to put three 3500 or so miles on my truck, how long should i wait to change and will the synthetic matter?
