relay

So I stopped and helped some lady with a VW tdi a few minutes ago. She already had figured out that the problem was a large 100amp relay. she could push on it and get it to run but if she let off it would die. So being the ole homesteader that I am I pulled the cover off the relay and wedged something in the contacts to hold it closed. It worked but I'm wondering what the relay does? she thought it was for the glows but obviously it wasn't. when I pulled it out it seemed to kill most power to things.

ooohhh... not sure at all what the relay is for, Les, but effectively bypassing a 100A circuit sort of worries my yellow side.

The other side says "way to go, Red! Did you use all the duct tape yet?"

Pretty amazing the woman found the relay was the problem. Definitely not a LA woman..
