Rebuilt GM6 with Wicked Wheel II

It will be interesting to see what gains are made with the WW turbo installed. Differences in EGTz too.
I had though about the WW setup in My GM8, it seems that the A-Team turbo might be the better route though.

No, the builder already applied something to it, and I'm going to leave it as is... this will get me by till I have the new motor finished and that one will have a different turbo...

I haven't heard of an unhappy user with the wicked wheel yet. Not amazing results, but for a low price- well worth it. That has been a van, 1/2 and 1 ton pickup and heavy and lighter weight hummers.

So is it highly recommended to have a shop do the wheel swap? I am mostly concerned about balance.

I would love a ATT, but to be honest I have a ATT appetite on a Gm-1 core budget... :) It takes alot of $ to maintain a fleet, let alone upgrade it.

You can do it. I have rebuilt several turbos over the years.
Good idea to get and install a seal kit while You have it off and apart.

Super easy to swap. Open the turbo. Remove nut on end. (Possibly reverse thread - cant recall) Heat old wheel gently with a propane torch and it slips off. Heat the new wheel and slide it on. Tighten nut with a rag over the vanes to help hold it without tearing your hand up. Reassemble the turbo compressor side.

Nothing to this one, John & the turbo shop are looking at several different turbine wheels at this time... Their isn't much than can be done other than another wheel...

So, what does this mean? Is the conclusion that there is not much to gain from this, due to an airflow issue, further downstream?

No, the exhaust side of the GMx turbo is the Asthma Attack. A more free flowing exhaust wheel may help the GMx turbo. Again trade offs may be encountered like a higher engine RPM before the turbo spools, but, not always. (Some platforms are locked into the GMx due to space / center mount.)

So that said, if someone already has an aftermarket exhaust, then there may be some benefit to this new wheel. Does that sound about right? If so, then it sounds like it might be a low cost bump for someone not ready to make the move to the ATT.
