And thanks for all the help and advice in the past. I’m making a list for parts to put together the front section of the engine. I’m going to get dayco hb, and hb pulley, belt and tensioner, band clamp for exhaust…then some other parts down the line. But I need to ask for help again…when I bought the truck a few years ago it was not all the way assembled so I was looking at pics of alternator and wondering if it is missing a bracket (adding pics) first 2 alt last one of support bar…the support I think might be from turbo area, but didn’t get that far yet, and disassembled a few years ago so my memory is?? The alt was laying on the floorboard and did have the bracket connecting to the belt tensioner but no bolts or nuts so if someone can include the size. Thanks panran

I looked at an old picture and see where the brace goes…but the diagram confuses me, because it shows a bolt going in the back of the alternator (and there is a threaded hole) but I don’t have a bracket there, or are 2 okay?

Also- I’m gonna jump in on that Dayco balancer.
Don’t.

When my cousins balancer went a little sloppy on him 2 years ago, he stopped over and I helped him swap it. He bought a dayco. I warned him, but he was out of cash & time so we installed it. Then just like most the other aftermarket ones, we replaced it just last weekend. This time he listened and got Delco balancer and pulley. The Dayco took out his timing guide, damaged the new belt drive pulley he put on too. He estimates 22,000 miles.

If you know for sure you will have the 6.5 for many years- invest in the Fluidampr and Leroys billet pulley should be considered. They come off the engine you have now and go onto the new engine later- your lifetime not the engine.
If you can’t justify the costs, then get the Delco for both. Then you should make 100,000 miles your next swap time.

At least do some reading on it. One thing about the billet belt pulley you’ll read is the rubber is better than metal but thousands of 6.2 and older 6.5 and military 6.5 turbos out there running steel belt pulleys without an issue. Not to mention the guys running a Leroy’s without issue.

Thanks Will L you always have excellent advice and you and the forum members have helped me to become a diesel addict I never knew if this truck was going to run or if I got ripped off,but now it starts and I want to hear it going down the road. I don’t think I have 100,000 miles in me (74 in September) I read Dorman is not the best choice so I thought Dayco might be better. Leroy is a is the way to go but fd is out of my reach. I just want to experience a turbo diesel going down the road.

Ok, no worries. I would guess Dayco better than dorman but I don’t like either.

You got years on me but no male In my family made 70 since ancient biblical times so you and I are probably on the same exit schedule. If I follow suit with all the others, I get another decade on my feet then a couple years in a bed (or maybe one last shot at skydiving, this time without the chute- haha). I figure its ok for me, I don’t think Jesus wants my diesel making black clouds so my long term ideas are for my kids to have it or whoever buys it from my wifey.

Yeah I’m thinking mid 70s for me, and will be here for anyone in the family who wants to apply themselves and become one with the machine. Focus grasshopper
On that- I have left written instructions with my password so they can sign on here and hummer forum to get help fixing them when the time comes.
Hopefully by then they can take the pebble from my hand😂

I found a picture and part number of the bracket missing. But seems like it is hard to find, but I’ve been searching and messaged people with parts cars…no luck yet. Does anyone know how to get dimensions from a part number and picture, I’m sure I could crudely fabricate one. The picture threw me off and then noticed it from bottom of part. Thanks

No problem take it easy and recover. I’ll take care of it, I have a little bit of welding skill and an arc welder and mig and drill press. The thing I miss is in Illinois there was a scrap yard that would let you browse the yard and you could buy back what you could use. Another guy parting out GM Chevy parts is going to check and see if he has one. Thanks for the offer though. 🙏
