Why is it sometimes my windows will clear up but not my rearview mirrors?

Why is it sometimes my windows are frosted or soaked with dew but my mirrors are not?

Why is it that I drove 12 miles this morning, all my windows are clear, but my rearview mirrors still have dew on them and I can barely see to back-up?

Is there a way to solve this without upgrading mirrors or wiping them off? haha

I know about how you feel. Three or four years ago the right side power mirror burned out on my truck. I didn't really realize how much I missed defogging or de-icing until then. It wasn't long before I had it replaced. Like Jay said, I would put some kind of chemical or coating on it, rain being the first choice.
