Rear window defogger ground???????

I was wondering where the ground was for the rear window defogger. I believe I have located all the grounds in the engine compartment and most of the interior ones. I have started cleaning some of them. Thanks for all the info on this site!!!

I am also going to be cleaning the radiator, replacing injectors, changing tranny fluid, new crossover etc. The list just keeps on growing. Once you start working on these vehicles it can become addicting. Trying to make it reliable, enhance performance, general upkeep can give a person a lot of pride in a job well done.:smile5::smile5:

The "barn door", or cargo door, 'burbs have brass spring loadad contacts on the vertical pillar to which the door hinges are attached. 2 on the drivers side, 4 or 5 on the pass. side, they look like shiny pencil erasers. If you have a tailgate, I don't remember.lcoot:

The fuse keeps blowing for the rear defogger and I was trying to find the ground for it and so far came up empty handed. The fuse contacts are clean. I am wondering if anybody would recomend a good manual for chassis electrical.

I going to research this a little more this weekend. Is it possible the pin switches going to the barn door are bad. I think I am going to just have to put a meter on it and start tracing down the issue.

I shined 'em all up with some emery, and that cured mine. The "pins" are spring loaded contacts, and they need to have a clean contact. Get down to shiny metal on the pins and the contacts.

Would think it grounds right onto the body?? If they are anything like normal rear window defogger's they contacts must be continuous and not broken. They sell copper/metal repair patch to fill in the weak spots.

I think I will pull the pin switches off the doors and start from there I now know I have a bad ground in the engine compartment so there is probably more.
