I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but here goes...

As part of cleaning the rad, I decided that the factory setup for the radiator drain suks. It drains into the rad cradle and piddles all across the front of the truck.

So, I decided its time to make a proper drain:
1. Drill a 1" hole into rad cradle just below the radiator drain
2. Add a hose onto the drain spout. (5/8" I think)
3. re-install rad.

Here's the results:

Its that easy. (if the rad is out!)

Cheers.

Since I'll have that all out, I'll do the Snoman mod while I've got Suburban parts scattered all over heck and back.

Does anyone actually have any luck removing the radiator bungs?

Park on grass, accidently remove lower radiator hose. Walk away not knowing the lower hose is removed. Come back in a few minutes to utter surprise, the radiator hose is off and coolant everywhere!... damnit.

Are you referring to the drain plug? (green in my first pic)

If so, the first time I tried to turn it, it was so stiff I thought I'd snap the plastic. Once loose, it was fine. I didn't try to remove it completely, but it felt like that it could be removed and replaced.

How on earth could you accidentaly remove the lower hose? Those factory hose clamps are a SOB to remove. Of course on mine, they were facing the wrong way and I had to remove the RH battery and tray to get at the lower hose.:mad2:

Anyway, the cuts are healing well and the rad is clean and back in the truck.

Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Ive done the same thing on my past trucks. Need to do it on the two new ones also. Seems like GM overlooked that. Normaly it seems they account for a drain.
