Question About 6.5TD Power

Aces - you need the HP4....I hope to prove it this Friday night....time to beat is 17.1 with the 2.0....I'm sure the new tune will get me into the 16s....

probably try it in the 2000. Then I'll have the two side by side to compare. The 95's runnin good right now. Old school thought..
If it ain't broke..Don't fix it..:biggrin5:

I wouldn't call the stock 6.5 a "dog." It's actually very competitve to other stock early 90's Diesels. Only problem is in the mid 90's when Ford and Dodge started going with new engines, GM didn't do much.

I'm so glad to hear you're not trying to race 'Stangs, had me worried there for a minute.

I had sold my 99 Suderduty with a stroke and my 2000 with a 6.5 so that's what I was basing comparision. Even if you go back to N/A vs N/a the 6.9 was faster than 6.2 . Had less problems with the 6.2 though. Better mileage too.

Yeah, by the late 90's the 6.5 had kinda fallen. Sad really. But still was comparable, stock to stock through the mid 90's.

They are differently shaped, and so differents. The V2.0, IMo is easier for daily driver, plenty of power, may be a bit firm whem shifting from 1st to 2nd (but not so in fact, just my feeling), and a good shifting points.
The HP4 pushes strong, but IMO is rather made for race ricers. Smooth shiftings, hig shiftpoints: the more you push on your right foot, the higher they are. When you're racing, pedal to the floor, the needle of tachometer reaches 3700~3800 rpms, beyond the 3500 rpms barrier.

So, we did compare the V2 and HP4, HP4 on mine, the V2 on another 1996, a clone of my truck. From 0 to 100 mph, almost side to side--- at 100 mph, mine gets stuck and I was just able to see my buddy smoking my window and flying away.
He went over 120 mph on the track, like I did before, I staid stuck at 100 mph :banghead:
From my own, I did swap to the HP4 only because I was looking for smoother shifts, higher idle (too low with V2 --- 550 rpms, so clanking engine) and EGR/vacuum pum defeat

Have you talked to Bill about that. It would seem the newer model should be better, but the way I read it the older model was better. I don't plan on taking my truck past 100mph but I would like to know that I could if I had to.

Yep, waiting for Bill's reply at the moment---
Me too, running over 100 mph is not my daily driving, but I'm mad as hell when I see my buddy's truck flying away and over 120 mph, especially as this V2 was on my truck and servicing almost fine--- sometimes when you get something good, you may not look for better---

I have been over 120 on Maxi-Torque II and HP4 verified by GPS.. wonder whats up?

i know that Turbine Doc's truck has HP4 and when i rode with him he said his truck would go about 120... till he put on his Buckstop bumper, then it was 117 or so. IIRC

On my 94 6.5 TD the vaccuum lines were sucking shut causing the wastegate to not function properly. When I replaced the lines, it was so much better.
