Ok guys, I'm about to change where my pyro probe is. It's in the crossover right now, and I'm curious where everyone is putting theirs at?

Right hand exh manifold, there is a flat spot suitalbe to drill and place the pyro. Keep the engine running when drilling and tapping, if done with the manifold still on the engine.

X2 with what Norwegiandiesel said. The flat spot he's talking about is just below the turbo, in the exhaust manifold. This location seems to get the best heat from both banks of cylinders.

I started with a cold motor, started drilling before starting the motor, and before going all the way through I then started the motor. The maximum manifold thickness at this point is about 1/4", if my memory is correct. I also used a bit of grease on the drill bit and tap to help attract any stray bits of metal.

Thanks guys, thats what I was thinking too. The search is lacking a little bit on this subject. I'm guessing that the inner fender needs to come out for the best way to get to it?

If you have a right angle drill and a short bit you could maybe drill it out, inner fender removal is easy and IMO "only way" to do maintenance on lower right side of the engine, while it is off check/test all glows that side, replace your injector jumper lines, gnds that side, check starter ear mounts and the support bracket on the end for tightness/verify it is still there.

Remove, clean, & anti-seize the turbo clamps, mount bolts 1 at a time, and also the (3) exhaust crossover bolts , if feeling really ambitious do the exhaust manifold studs while in there 1 at a time so you don't break the seal. You will thank yourself later if you ever have to do any maintenance there.

Don't get too crazy with the tap for the probe NPT tap is taper so you want to leave enough "meat" for a good seal.

Ok, so what your saying is that I don't need to tap the whole thing? Just about 1/2 or 3/4 way in so it will have something to tighten up to?

just a thought here.... the crossover would be a OK spot if you take the time to wrap the crossover with header wrap, it would save a lot of extra work and be almost as accurate,
.

I have mine is the driver side mani before the donut, easier to run the wiring.

Not needed. There is one of the same bosses on the top side of the manifold. I put my pyro probe on the top side of the manifold. It can be accessed easily from the top without removing anything. No right angle drills, no long drill bits, no removal of the inner fender needed.

When i drilled & Tapped my manifold i didn't have to remove the inner fender, although i did remove the RF tire. What i did was take several of the inner fender bolts out, and "flex" it up out of the way to drill & tap. Easier than i thought it was going to be.
