pump noise?

The parts are stacked correctly I can't verify that the p.r. valve was before I took it apart today as it fell out. but it didn't the first time so I'm thinkin it was right. I tried to do a video but couldn't hear the noise on it. I will leave the camera on the gauge for a drive tommorow. I wish i could afford a t56. this is and 86 c10 by the way originally a 305 h code truck. meaning it had a tcc lockup control in the computer. probably dont make a difference though

Well I think I might have gotten the problem fixed. I bought another trans. A rebuilt 700r4 for $100. Craigslist is awesome. the guy told me that his brother works at a dealer and gave him the trans for his camaro, which he has sold. He told me that it came from a "hot rod" and the owner decided to go manual. Said it will handle 500 hp and gave me a B&M torque converter. I can see it has a corvette servo. I guess Ill find out tomorrow when I put her in. Also scored a locking dipstick!!! I will have to do some measuring first to make sure I don't have to do any driveshaft modification. And lockup controls ugh i just got all that stuff figured out on the old trans.

That's One way to fix it!

Can't beat a hundred dollar 700.. Hope it works out for you..

Now you're good to 500hp..! (sarcasm)

Yeah I have a hard time believing people when they say stuff like that. But at that price the guy had no reason to lie, so I don't know. He was also selling a vortec motor with new cam and pistons, which I saw was true with my own eyes, for 150. Which makes me want to believe the guy.

GOD DAMNIT. OK I got the new trans in went for a drive, for the first few blocks it didn't want to shift at all. 1st and reverse only. Swapped governers then after a few more blocks it shift to second but not third. got on the highway and floored it in second and it downshifted and shifted into second then third at its WOT point. has been intermitten since. Sometimes it will shift just fine but other times it takes a good kick to the pedal. Still no fourth tho. I am not sure how long this trans has been sitting could this just be sticky valves from sitting so long??

I should also say that when i had the pan off no "metal dust" on the valve body or anything. I believe it is a no miles rebuild. And it has the auxillary valve body!!

Swapped governors is a good move.

Try and loosen in the TV linkage adjuster a 'few' clicks. 1/8 inch thereabouts. You would move the ribbed slider forward to loosen.

I have been trying this and that including dropping the valve body cleaning/inspecting valves i could find stock diagrams for. I have moved the t.v. cable either way and the results are Late upshift early downshifts compared to the old trans anyway, very harsh and sometimes noisy 2-3 up and downshift, still no 4th, shifts into drive or reverse seem soft. The shifts are smoothing out somewhat, but if I shift into manual 2 from first gear it reverts back to the previous problem until i shift back to reverse then back to drive it will once again shift. While its not shifting it wont hold first gear it goes into nuetral when i let off the throttle unless im in manuall first then it holds the gear. I still need to change over the speedo gears but it shifts to second around 20 at light throttle maybe t.v. related, but tv isn't all my problem. Good 2200 rpm stall on the converter though helps with my crappy 2.73 gears and 30 inch tall tires. I've been thinking about swapping pumps from the craigslist trans to my old one or valve bodies from the old one to the craigslist one if that will work? according to my b&m instructions from the last trans the new one is an 88 and up.

IIRC you can't switch pumps between Aux VB and Aux VB apps.

No engine braking on coast (the neutral feeling letting off the throttle) indicates a problem with the over-run clutch in the input drum and/or a problem with the sprag in the TC.

No 4th while having 2nd still, rules out the 2-4 band and associated hardware. I would check the 2-4 piston for proper assembly, seals, clips etc. Sometimes excess sealant on the pan rail or improper gasket alignment can obstruct the vent hole directly below the 2-4 piston in the case which would cause a no 4th.

Check to see if all the plugs/switches are in place on the VB. The one circled can sometimes pop out (rare) and result in a no 4th and low line rise situation.

You are more than likely going to have to take your original trans to a good shop unless you are a glutton for punishment. :D

added: trying to find a pic of missing plug in VB..

ok i was under the impression that all wireing was for tcc lock up there is a wire diconnted but there is 2 connection spot on the only bare solenoid

The best trans shop in town couldn't firuge out a toyota cartridge filter and I a quick lube guy had to show them how it was done. i'm not so confident in them ill probably rebuild it myself and have the trans shop do the bushings and compessing of the ... um spring things. Gotta learn sometime right!

better explination of the wire its got a blue connecter, sits at the back of the trans and the other 2 wires in the area go to something that bolts to the valve body.

No, plug as in to hold hydraulic pressure. There are switches that thread in (plug), hex plugs and a few stamped metal 'cup' plugs in the VB. There cannot be any missing.

ok I realized that i hadn't changed the tv stetting since cleaning the valve body so i let it loose a few notches and i now have everything but 4th and at light throttle its kinda soft 1-2 shift but harsh 2-3 shift (makes my glove box rattle and its set tight) wot though is a very firm positive shift to second and third. i can shift manually or auto just no 4th.

i will check that hole to the servo tomorrow i knew about that dangit. and should there be no open hole in the valve body?

You can get the 2-4 servo out without dropping the pan, yes.

The 'plug' check you would need to drop the pan.

The cover oring is usually damaged on removal, it's gotta pass through the clip groove. Maybe oil it down before trying to work it out. It's just a big rubber oring.
