My 7004 has a whine thats present in all ranges. Gets very loud in 1,2,3 when pressures low (off throttle) at lower rpm and get progresivly louder the lower the rpm. I have recently installed b&m shift improver kit (2 weeks ago) and a tranny cooler (1 week ago). This noise started about 2 days ago. I also have had a pressure gauge installed for a few weeks and the pressure bounces very rapidly 10-20psi in all but N and P but not all the time, did this before the b&m kit. anyway if this is the pump can i use a rebuild kit to fix the problem?
thanks james

Do the pressures rise with throttle position? TV linkage still hooked up? What's min and max pressures?

What shift improver did you use?

Pump noise (if that is what we're dealing with here) is not a good sign. Did the kit have you changing springs or vavles in the boost valve?

Did you have the torque converter out at all? Or change to a different one?

Try something, with the engine idling in park, detach the TV linkage and listen to the trans as you pull the cable out slowly and fully. Does the noise get louder of quieter?

I would revisit your work in the pressure regulator valve if you should decide to drop the pan.

I have not had the torque converter off. Ill check it out the regulator today, do you happen to have or know right where i could find a GOOD picture of the pressure regulator assy. and the cable test. thank you for your responses.

ok, I found a decent pic but what side of the reverse boost valve goes toward the pan, small diameter side so it goes through the hole in the bottom of the sleeve or large diameter side so it doesn't?

Maybe you missed the snap ring groove up in the bore. (the rev. boost valve)

I will have to get a pic from my ATSG book for the order of the rev. boost valve.

well I know I could feel the step in the bore, and the valve would move smoothly. But this was my first venture into a valve body so I will triple check. Ill get ahold of a camera after work and record a short drive. I'm gonna have to start buying tranny fluid by the barrel I've had this pan off so many times!!

Drain into a clean pan, re-use if the fluid is good..

I wouldn't drive it until the problem is found.

There is a step,... then a 'groove' for an internal snap ring on up in the bore. That bore is actually in the pump.

Boost valve and PR valve stackup: (illustration...don't grind or use a different spring than in your kit)

i couldn't tell a difference in the noise moving the cable. pretty quiet at idle not moving at least compared to the motor. ill pull the pan over the next few hours and see but i have to drive no choice. its been making the noise for the last 150 miles at least

the sound got quieter, but is still there and the gauge still bounces like crazy mostly around 125psi which is strange cuz thats also the pressure it runs in L1,L2, and R????? i dont know what to do from here the sound would be inaudible over my 2.5 in duals if you weren't listening for it that is until L1,L2, when you let off the gas at about 1300 rpms she just starts to howl. what controls R,L1,L2 pressure?

The PR valve can flutter and the gauge is telling us something.

In post 13, is all your parts stacked in like that?

The manual valve controls the L1 L2 R pressure or 'routes' the pressure via shifter position.
