Proper ballast/post what you run and blade!

Balast installed

Just constucted a retaining frame for the wieghts.

450# of cast iron, It dropped the rear end 2" with the blade raised.

Adding these wieghts have made a big difference in truck handling while carring a plow. I'll get to check out plowing in the morning, as we get the first plowable snow.

thanks for the reply Bill, when you get the time...

Sorry again guys. I pulled mine out of my 04.5 before I sold it. I recently re-installed in my 05 and they're leaking. They are leaking out of the bag itself it seems. I praised these things until now. We'll see how customer support is after I give them some what for. They were decent at first so we'll see. I planned to rely soley on the shocks for this season. My truck sits low as it is (for now) and I didn't want to waste $ on Timbrens since I already have big $ shocks. It sucks, but I'll keep you guys updated. Not that I would want to, but I could deal with a tiny leak since I have an onboard compressor. So what if I had to refill every few hours while out plowing, but now they leak down in like 60 seconds. I wouldn't want to recommend a product I didn't feel comfortable/trust using myself!!

thanks for the post Bill. i was thinking about getting them, but now.... we'll have to see how they are to you at customer service.

I emailed yesterday afternoon (Sunday) and had a response by 8:00 am this morn. They are willing to resolve the issue no ?'s asked. They want me to send them back and they'll either repair or replace them. I really don't want to remove them and be shockless, but I suppose they are being more than abliging............It's been over a year, and she remembered who I was.

I inquired about becoming a distributor for them so we'll see. That way, I'd be able to kill Summit's price. They hooked me up last time with a group buy, so we'll see.

hmmmmmmmm. interesting...... that tells me everything about a company, their customer service, and it sounds amazing. thanks Bill

Would have been nice to have a plow last week in coonass country. Snowed a foot at my house. Today it was 76 outside, we got some crazy weather

i plow with a john deere lx 277 with a 3 foot blade. when i need extra ballast i just lean my 280 frame a little further back in the seat or if i need more traction i bounce up and down

Im going to run a MEGA V and have a fisher 1000 tailgate spreader thats 100lbs empty and you can put 7 50lb bags of salt in it so 350lbs +100-=450lbs of ballast!!! were running only 4bags of salt to a time this year and mixing it with cinders.!!

I run a Hiniker c-plow. I was using rig wheels strapped to pallets as ballast, but this year the bed was already filled with about thirty 4X4s, so i just used them this first storm. The weight is not exactly all behind the rear axle, but it worked fine in a foot of snow.
I also run the Arnott Air Shocks and I stand by them so far. They are awesome when pushing snow, and they stop that horrible front end roll in turns with no plow on.
By the way, good to see you GOTH2O. I was whitehat55 on the DP. We bought them together in that group buy. Guess you are another leaker now, though I think most those guys leaks were because they didn't make square cuts with a razor blade.

Nice to see you too. Infact, I was going to look you up and ask how yours were. I agree with the other guys and leaks. I went ahead and put stainless elbows on mine thinking it was the problem, but it wasn't. Something you may want to consider anyway, they are way nicer. Anyways, with all this snow I haven't had a chance to get mine off yet to send them back, but hope to soon.

how much did your air shocks cost yea??

Here's a pic of them for those that are curious ;)

Still interested in the outcome of this...I'd like to know if you think they were not used for plowing and up north with salted roads, if you think they would have held up better...

Honestly Pepp, I think the fact that they layed on my garage floor unused for 6 months didn't help much. I think they dried out. I'm sure the elements of last year didn't help much either. We had a big season then too, the main reason I haven't pulled them off yet. The company seems to be willing to comply with my every request, so I'd assume that once I do get time to take them out and send them in they'll take good care of me.

As far as price, it's all over the board. IIRC, Summit was over $500, we got them as a group buy from the manufacturer for like $360 IIRC.

I am thinking of installing air bags when i get the 6' in bed sander installed. I am going to wait and see how bad the truck squats when it is loaded. I am buying the sander from a buddy and his F-350 squats quite a bit when it is loaded and he has helper springs. He figures it weighs about 800lbs empty and at least 3k loaded. He will be upgrading to an 8'er and will be hauling even more sand than now, he too may need air bags when he gets fully loaded.

With 3k you're definately going to want bags.

I had an 8' 2 1/2 yardsander in the back of my rig last year, she did squat a bit when fully loaded, but your spreading sand quick enough that I never felt I needed bags at all... Best thing about it, you can plow ANYTHING in 2wd when your loaded w/sand.

You sand and sand, and weight gradually comes back to normal without you realizing it. Best thing about it come spring time when you take it off, truck feels fast :)
