Project for the boys and i

So I made a subframe for the bed out of 3" C channel.IMG_20200529_155202.jpg
This is how much I need to lower it.IMG_20200529_154542.jpg
What do you guys think? I'm planning on using body mounts to attach it to the frame.

Yeah, I follow what you're doing and why. Sounds like a plan, notch those rails to match the contours of the truck's frame, then fabricate some mount brackets (or not, if the subframe matches up to the bed's mounting points) and a cushion and through bolt and you should be good to go.

So I finally got the body mounts all done. The bed took longer than I thought. I scribed the C channel subframe to fit the Tahoe frame then I had to straighten it since it pulled so much after welding. Used my forklift to do that. Then I put a half circle cut out in for the fuel tank filler hoses. Then I bolted the subframe to the bed and set it in place. I did that to make sure the bed was exactly where I wanted it to be before I welded on the angle brackets for the mounts. Missing one bolt to have it all bolted up but done for now. Next will be to pull the other cab I have and see if I'd rather use it.IMG_20200529_155202.jpgIMG_20200606_192951.jpgIMG_20200603_143643.jpgIMG_20200606_174952.jpgIMG_20200606_175001.jpgIMG_20200603_143652.jpgIMG_20200606_174933.jpgIMG_20200606_174942.jpg

Yes when I originally started this thread I had pretty much a complete truck but the front clip was off and pretty distorted. So when this blue cab came along I got it mainly so I could just set it in place along with the bed and get everything aligned like I wanted. I also have another partial cab, dash forward. I'm going to cherry pick the best parts for this build.

So here's the other cab. I was noticing a couple of nice things with this cab that could be transferred if needed. I has the factory heater box and it also has a hand brake. It does have a few dents but not near as many as the blue cab. Floor is less rusty but interestingly enough the rockers are pretty much intact on the blue and gone on the yellow.IMG_20200609_201909.jpgIMG_20200609_201921.jpgIMG_20200609_201941.jpgIMG_20200609_202008.jpg

It's not great, no, but still looks like it might be a better start than the blue one - especially considering all of the dents on the blue one (I assume you're looking for it to be nice looking and not a rat build). Are repair panels available for these or will you be stuck making all of your own patches?
