Problem Still Happening

doesn't take much of an air compressor, even one of those cigarette lighter emergency tire inflator pumps will work.

Go to auto part store, for about $20-25 get a diagnostic vac/pressure gauge, and 6' or so of rubber vacuum line, then you can snake the hose into the cab with gauge installed, and test under load, idle check is okay, but proof in the pudding as it were, is a road test, see if 3-4 psi is being sustained when cruising, and not dropping below 1 psi on hard acceleration or if it does dip, that it doesn't dip below for very long, 5-10 sec max, and should recover back to 3-4 psi once you have achieved the desired cruising speed after the hard acceleration.

Problem STILL exists! Runs strong for a while when first started in the morning then starts all over again! No light or codes! Not even to operating temperature ! It was around 52 Degrees this morning when I left the house. I pulled and cleaned the tank 3/06 and replaced the sending unit that came with a new sock too! I am trying everything before I buy ANOTHER IP so here are the NEXT question! As the tank is full of fuel, will it be better to turn the key on and let the LP run to drain the tank through the "T" valve or unplug the LP and "jumper" it with a battery charger? If there is NOTHING in the fuel tank and I end up replacing the IP, Who makes the best one or sells the best one? I purchased a rebuilt pump on 4/19/06 from Diesel Injection Service in Cincinnati,Oh at 117,250 miles on the odometer and it lasted until 7/11/07 with only 10,000 miles on it. They would not warranty it as it was 1 month over the warranty expiration date! I wound up purchasing A second rebuilt IP from them and it now has 13,000 miles on it and is almost two years old so I know it will not be under warranty either! This is VERY frustrating But ALL answers are GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks, Keith

When my sock was clogged, I'd run fine for a while and as its running, sock clogs more.

When it finally dies, I think the crud releases alittle off the sock, allowing you to run again, until the crud clogs the sock again.

Try blowing it clean, it may run fine for a month or so (like mine does) and then I need to blow it clean again.

If this works, it will buy you time until you can do drop your tank to clean it out at your own pace.

Sounds just like my truck right now. I need to clear my sock out once a month until I can drop my tank to 'figure it out'....

Its free, blow on the damn thing with your mouth if you have to.

Be sure to remove your fuel cap.

FWIW my sock started clogging on me 3 weeks after putting a brand new tank and FSU in. So 2 years old is a long time. It only takes one batch of crud to clog that sock up.

To do list.

Get a fuel pressure gauge with hose length to run in cab as TD said. Leave it there for a few weeks.

Blow out your lift pump Inlet line with fuel cap off.

Report back with detailed fuel pressure results.

let me go find my link.

Doesnt fuel come out when you disconnect your LP?

On some it drains for a while, until siphon effect quits, suction is at bottom of the tank, I also like to park uphill or on ramps to stop the siphon action.

Matt depends on what kind of crud you got going on it the tank, stuff that was on my sock would clog after 2 days,

I will search the neighborhood for an air compressor! Thanks for all replies, Keith

Went to a customers Carpet Cleaning business and used their air compressor! Removed LP and fuel cap and Blew it out and it is running better BUT I am draining the tank Friday night and removing the tank on Saturday morning and Cleaning the sock and tank by hand! This problem actually started in late January and I replaced both the LP and PMD and the problem went away only to return this past week and it baffled my brain on what the problem was! I guess I need to pill the tank yearly for now on! Thank you to everyone who replied especially Matt and Turbine Doc! It is great to know there are a lot of people who will share their knowledge with others! Keith
