Probably time for injectors and glows. Guidance requested.

Burning Oil- PMD cable received today and installed. Thanks for the quick ship! Holding the chinese clone and yours side by side made things pretty obvious. Cant wait for a test spin.

Thanks again-

Great,
I can buy The chinese cable for $5 each, but why bother selling junk. I would rather pay more when the difference is clear.

I have always used 60gs with no issue. They don't start "the best" but they last and don't swell. I have never had a stuck one. The Dually I am buying has WAPs. They are coming out(hopefully) The guy just put them in. I may give the Durathems a try. Funny the guys over at Steel soldiers all swear by the wellmans(WAP). I know Wellman(WAP) is the only one to my knowledge that makes 24v glows for the Humvees buthe CUCV guys all use them. I wouldn't. As far as injecors I have bought 3 sets from Accurate Diesel with no issues. Tim is a great guy and the price is great.
BTW just for informational purposes, what we commonly refer to as injectors are actually just nozzles. Injection event happens at the IP. A true Detriot 2 stroke has "Injectors" because injection event happens by the Injector...I was corrrected on this on a Heavy Truck site and thought I would pass it along. If you read the factory GM Service Manual it also refers to Nozzles , not injectors which had originally confused the crap outta me. Not trying to re invent the wheel but thought I'd pass it along.

hahaha. Yeah. I will do that today. As for the injectors/glows, thinking duraterms and possibly having my own injectors rebuilt and pop set/balanced locally. Looking in to that tomorrow.

Just looked up accurate diesel right now. I notice to sets on 6.5 injectors... with one listed as turbo (reman's) and new ones- roughly the same price. Any idea if these are balance tested? (pop pressures set to a standard psi as a set??)

And... what pop pressures should I look for based on my mods (KOJO chip en route)?

You have to assume they are all non balanced, just built to factory specs, and then hopefully that.

If someone balanced a set it would be clearly stated (as well as priced accordingly)

Either way, get them balanced before you put them in the truck if your into that, or you'll be thinking about it for roughly 100,000 miles wishing you had.

There have been thousands of injectors installed without balancing that have had no issue. Forum paranoia gets you thinking though...

But, having them balanced by a 3rd party also tests them for proper spray pattern and pop pressure. Having a crappy spraying injector would stink, and you'd probably never know it (hopefully).. Unless it burns a hole in your piston.

The new injectors that accurate diesel sells are "Medallion" injectors. I have 2 sets of them and don't seem to have any problems. I didn't have my pop tester before I bought them so I have no idea how they spray or the difference in pop pressure.
Tim claims his rebuilt injectors are top notch and better than most new injectors. It's just that you have to return the cores.Accurate has the cheapest price on dipico injector install kits.
Chevy cowboy has a set from badger diesel but hasn't run them yet. They are supposed to be balanced. Price was very reasonable also.
You could rebuild them yourself. Rockauto sells the nozzles for around $14 each. Then just have them tested/balanced. Most shops charge $10 each or less to test/set/balance.

Whats nice about test/balance is it almost eliminates the risk of cheap/crappy injectors. Good point about rebuilding BK. If the bodies look decent why not... The ones I pulled out are so rusted together even if i could get them apart I wouldn't want them.

The inj. I installed in this truck are from Fred at Badger Diesel. I called him, visited inquiring how he got into the rebuilding business, how long, etc......

I've probably got 400-500 miles on them. Absolutely no problems, and don't expect any. Came with the seals also.

The previous injectors were so wore out the PO had the truck to an independent mechanic to diagnose engine noise problem under 1500 RPM. He said it was a cracked flex plate. They never had it fixed 'cause cost was out of their range and it had other issues. Rebuilt injectors and no cracked flex plate!!

I've also purchased items from Tim and Accurate. He's as "stand up" as you can ask a human to be. You know those GP's you guys complain about, Wellman I think they are, Tim sells those......So now I'm in a conflict. Are the plugs THAT bad? Is Tim representing an inferior product? Am I just confused?

I have heard WAP's have fixed their problems, but everytime this topic comes up, Aces chimes in and I stand clear.

If nobody has problems with Duraterms or 60g's, why even take the chance on the WAP's (wellman automotive products)... they are known to swell and become tough to remove.....

I had the WAP glows in my 95LD for a while. They didn't seem to make a difference but I had severe problems with the glow wiring. I have ac g60s in it now with the wiring repaired and it still doesn't start as good as it should. I'm trying bosch in the latest 2 engines to see how well they work.
I also believe Tim at accurate diesel is a stand up guy. That's why I took a chance on the medallion injectors. I don't think he would risk his business on poor injectors. He claims that the medallions are manufactured in canada and I can't find anything to contradict that.
I have heard talk on the mercedes forum that the bosch -india injectors are poor quality compared to bosch-germany. Both material and workmanship. I don't know this to be fact personally, just something I read. Bosch moved all it's injector mfg. to india.

The guy that re-set my New Delphi NA injectors, said the same about the india's not being as good as the german Bosch units. This is after years of rebuilding injectors. He likes "Darn near any injector with new nozzles as long as He rebuilds them"

The reason I bring up the fuss about the GP's is because I purchased from Tim about 5 years ago that brand for a 6.9 diesel. I use the truck in summer and winter, but not a DD. It's got a manual over ride for the GP's. It fires up after setting for 2 months in the coldest part of winter with a 5-6 second count.

So my point is I have no problems with those GP's. Maybe the same brand for GM is lesser quality? Maybe some folks have just had bad luck? Maybe on a forum you get a concentration of negative reports? Kinda like making a statement about marriage---some like it, some don't. I guess the answer is YMMV (your mileage may vary)!

I was just trying to wake up the complainers.

I just installed a new belt on the Grasshopper ZTR. Picked it up at the local farm store. Wanted to try a kevlar belt. It's not a certified approved Grasshopper dealer belt, just one the same dimensions. Yep, stamped on the back---INDIA. What's a guy to do? We'll soon be a third world country with no manufacturing and no money to buy it when it's shipped in.

D2 I believe the problem is when its time for the glowplugs to come out it can become a nightmare. The tips swell larger than the exit hole :)
