Can you relocate the PMD inside near the AC? I have been going through 2 Gray PMD's so far and replacing these PMD's is getting costly. i am usng the accurate diesel relocate kit and FSD now with my third PMD and was just wondering if I can just move it inside? can anyone help

Kind of sucks that i have 2 relocate that plastic box that tells my engine to stay on. I live in the desert and if heat damages that thing I am doomed I hate ford kind of like dodge but always have had gm. no comment on hummers. the worst thing that happened to me with the pmd is stalling in an intersection and not being able to start for like 10 minutes i know i pissed of people because i was right in da middle lol

Check out PMDCable.com for a better solution. You can use your heatsink, but if it is on the intake then desert climate is not good for it there. You can find new PMDs for less than $200 shipped online. In the cab would be better than intake but I bet it would be fine if you just put it in the bumper. The electronics do not fail because of the heat. They fail from the constant cold to hot to cold to hot cycling, so in the engine bay is not a good place if you have real hot or real cold environments that can raise or lower the extreme that the PMD is cycled to.

Buddy is absolutely right... getting a good setup and locating it outside of the engine bay works. Really well, actually.

Bill Heath or Leroy at PMD Cable both offer complete units for external mounting (PMD, Heatsink, compound, cable, fasteners...) - everything you need. They also offer a 7-year replacement warranty (Leroy offers other choices, if you don't want the big warranty, but if you're tired of buying PMDs, you might want to think about it.)

No need to mount them in the AC ducting, really..
 
I dont think it would be healthy to sit in the truck in the heat, then get cold ac blasted across it, then back to heat again when the truck is sitting. Same deal, heat cycles just in a different range. I think the bumper nostril most of us use is the most consistent location.
 
It sounds like the heat issues where he is are severe. for the xtra 100$ I'd go with the Heath and that is from someone who makes his own.
 
Think about a DB2 mechanical IP conversion to get rid of the heat failure prone electronics.
 
If I were you, I will get Heath. You are a good candidate to use Heath's 7 yrs warranty. Just put it wherever his is supposed to be installed and forget about it. If it ever fails, then just get a replacement.
 
You can purchase 3 brand new PMDs and an extension cable for the cost of the Heath kit. Isnt there a saying 3 in the hand is worth, well its worth a lot more than being able to get a warranty replacement after dead on the road. The only thing youre paying for is the warranty which you may never use. If you didnt already have the heatsink, and maybe another already new PMD now then the Heath kit would make sense, but then PMDcable.com can offer you the same warranty if thats what you need.

I have the patent numbers, but you don't need them for anything. Don't worry about it, just remote your PMD with a Heath kit and forget about it.

What kind of a vehicle are we talking about here, that info is missing from your signature, go to the user CP button and list vehicle information in your signature, bumper mount may not be the best place depending on the type of remote mount kit you have, what remote kit are you using, finned or plate ?

6 years on Heath remote in my truck, 4 years on the one in my burb, never a hiccup in that time, my 1st attempt at remote mounting a kit bought for under hood use lasted just over 1 yr :nono:

I got a 6' extension and mounted the existing Stanadyne PMD on a Fleabay heatsink and just set it in the bumper snout -- two years and 10,000 miles ago. It was installed on the truck with the new injector pump in 2003, some 60,000 miles ago. I carry a spare brand new D-Tech pre-mounted on a spare heatsink in the glove compartment for a 1-minute swap-out.

I've reached in and felt the FSD and heatsink after driving on the freeway at 75 mph for an hour and a half. It's never been even warm to the touch.

There's some guy on Fleabay who sells heatsink for amplifiers in any length you want. He has multiple widths and fin densities. That's what I bought. ...pretty cheap as I recall.
