Was just coming in to post basically what Paul said. The fuel supply is critical on these rigs. If the mech was unwilling to check it then take it to another shop next time. That would have been the very first thing anyone that knows these trucks would have done (after checking PMD).
You should run a fuel gauge in the cab, that how important it is.
