OK so me and my buddy were talking today by my truck which was running and we heard a knock sound coming from below the turbo. At first i thought it was the sound of a diesel but now that i listened closer too it im not so sure. I have been reading and have tried the towel on turbo trick and its still there. Now im wondering if it is my injectors (please no im broke). Any thoughts?

I found i video on youtube that sounds like mine. THIS IS NOT MY TRUCK.
Ill try and upload a vid later tonight if i can. Please help.

So im going to sound completely stupid but i do not know how to do that. This my first diesel so im trying to learn

Each cylinder has a line/tubing going from the injection pump to the injector. So there are eight of them. While the engine is idling take a wrench and loosen the nut that holds the line to the injector. It should start leaking fuel. If the knocking stops then you know that injector is sticking. After testing the first one tighten it back up and move to the next one until you either find it or do all 8. If after checking all 8 and nothing changes then you need to start considering mechanical failures.

Dang ima have to do it tomorrow. its raining an snowing here. How big of deal is it if its just the injectors? I dont even want to think about mechanical failure.

Injectors take anywhere from 2hrs to a day:smile5: to do. Depends on the individual and any problems. There are a lot of threads on it, search and read up on doing them.

if you have an injector that is about to fail you better change it right way. I knew I had a leaky injector and didn't change it right away ..... no I got an engine with a hole in the piston and a bent rod......

Flare nut wrench is almost mandatory so you don't round off the fitting correct?

A cracked flywheel will sound like a rod knocking also,, Kinda a pain, to figure that one out,, so I'd start with checking the injectors also. Good luck to ya

Havent got to check the injectors yet but i am fairly sure im just gooing to replace them all for good measures. Which ones should i buy? Anyone give me some links? Thanks

That is what mine was doing and thought it was an exhause leak. Remove that cover over the turbo and see if that lite tick goes away. Crazy as it sounds but mine did. That and my vacuum pump made a simular sound when I got the truck.

Just keep it simple and think it out before going in deep.

OK here is a video of it starting after sitting all night.

The other video above which got deleted somehow.

And one of it accelerating.

Did you ever resolve this?

I would use your GMTDScanTech to turn off one injector at a time, rather than having to loosen the injectors which is hard to do on passenger side. Disable injector, truck will run bad but then go listen.

Or use GMTDScanTech to command 1500rpm idle and see if ticking is still there.

Then take the serpentine belt off and see if noise goes away.

The clacking sound is still there. Had it checked by a shop and they said they couldnt find anything. After listening to many other peoples 6.5 it just sounds like thats how everybody's truck sounds. Though i will try and do that with tech.
