Problem: Explain your problem in concise language : started then died, now wont start
Demographics: tell us about your truck and your ambient conditions: 70 degrees

- Year: 1995
- Truck model and class (ie: c2500) 2500 Suburban, 4x4
- Automatic or Standard: auto
- Mileage: 338,000 miles
- Replaced parts and mods (IP, PMD, chip/PCM, TM, injectors etc) replaced motor at 183K, PMD in bumper (2 y/o), welders cable for batteries, new batteries, new fuel filter, new trans filter, gauges, boost controller, 97 air filter, Pinnacle exhaust, flushed radiator, new thermostat, new hoses, new a/c compressor.
- Model: ‘‘F’ engine, Turbo
- Ambient outside temp: (indicate *C or *F) awesome- 70s
- What fuel are you using? #2 Diesel
- What fuel additives are you using? none
- Where are you located? Richmond, VA
General maintenance: inspect and evaluate the condition of each. When were they last changed?
- Air filter 6 weeks ago
- Fuel filter 6 weeks ago
- CDR Valve? 6 weeks ago
- Coolant – last flushed/replaced at August 09, 2000 miles ago
- Oil – regular, changed at 4000 miles ago
- Batteries – state of charge, (matched set) replaced at 6 weeks ago
- Battery cables and grounds (removed, cleaned and tightened): AGAIN TODAY, and 6 weeks ago
- Glow Plugs - how many miles on them? 150k What type? 9G
- Injectors - last changed at (est 150k on them)


History: (Describe how the problem first appeared.)
- What were you doing when it happened? Noticed SES light last week while driving at continuous 7# boost, no issues tho. Has been starting slower in past few weeks. Sometimes starter sounds fast, others slow. Final issue was running at idle, parked, then died. Restarted after check fuel flow (released valve on fuel manager). Then yesterday started after short 5 mile trip. Died when it went in to gear. Has not started since. Have noticed Glow Plug light flashes while cranking, but only once for roughly 1 sec.
- How was the truck running fine before this problem appeared? fine
- Has this problem ever happened before? 5 years ago
- Describe any related factors that might be part of the problem. ______________
- Have you checked for DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)? Yes
And? 39- TCC stuck 'off'
68- Trans component slipping
78- Turbo Wastegate Solenoid Fault
87- Trans Gear ratio fault
After reseting, only code 68 appears.


Diagnostics:

1] Starting:
1a] Does the engine start? No
1b] Does the engine crank over? Yes
1c] Are your batteries fully charged? Yes
1d] Have you removed, cleaned, and tightened all battery connections? OMG YES
1e] Does your Wait to Start light come on for a time? How long?
1f] Does your glow plug light come on? Yes, 3-4 seconds
1g] Do you see smoke from the exhaust while cranking? What color? No
1h] Does the Service Engine Light Glow during Start/bulb check? Yes

2] Fuel Issues (if not running):
2a] Can you hear your lift pump working? yes
2b] Do you get a steady flow of fuel from the water drain (T-handle) ? yes
2c] Loosen the inlet line from the IP – is fuel coming out (Lift Pump on)? have not tried
2d] Loosen an injector line and crank the engine - does fuel come out? yes
2e] Do you hear a vacuum (hiss) when you remove the fuel cap? No

3] PMD / IP Issues
3a] Location of PMD - remote in bumper
3b] Condition of Extension harness vendor made, looks fine. Attached 2nd limp home PMD, same issue. Retorked transistors on PMD
3c] Condition of grounds / ground wires to IP / PMD. Check Harness. Clean
3d] PMD Make: Stanadyne
3e] PMD Age: 2 years



6] Performance Issues
6a] Do you have gauges- yes, boost, pyro, trans
6b] Maximum boost under load? 8 pounds
6c] Have you added a performance PCM (reflash) or Chip? no
6d] Have you changed exhaust / downpipe / crossover? yes, turbo back
6e] Wastegate – mechanical (heath)

I took the Glow Plug controller off, could see no issues. Gets 12 v to one side both key on and off. Other side does note see 12v. Glow plugs removed (2 on drivers side). Attached directly to batt, DOES GET HOT, and grounded hooked to harness (going through the controller) and DOES GET HOT. You can hear LP and GPC working.

Fuel is getting to injectors.

Limp home PMD does same- no start.

OLD ISSUES before this: Cruise control intermittent. Fan on high also intermittent. Dash gauges act stupid- fuel tank only shows half, oil pressure points straight down when engine off, then rises to 0 when driving. Sometimes heat on all the time. Sometimes air handler does not change positions. A/C push button orange light sometimes on, sometimes not, as is air recirculation button.

You know what? I have no clue... but have had no issues for a good 2 years...???

Bypass tho- great idea, had not thought of that. Will try here in the next hour.
 
ak diesel driver- you get the prize! Hooked up limp home PMD, no resistor and not bolted to pump, but it still fired right up. I am gone for the next 2 days but will remove the extension harness and do a continuity test Monday.

Yeah that AK Diesel is the old sage. Things must be thawing out up there. Wonder when that contest to guess the river thaw out up happens?
