Hello, I found this BB while googling for this issue.
Hopefully I can get some help here.

I have an 02 2500hd Diesel CC SB. No lift and 285's. I put the cognito idler and pitman brace kit on at around 60K miles. Now at 110,000 miles. Yesterday in a parking lot going to turn right the pitman arm bolt sheared. I don't do much of my own work so I took it and left it at a shop.

What worries me is having this happen while towing on a mountain road. This could be a very serious issue.

I saw a few threads but am not sure what to make of all this. It sounds like I shouldn't steer all the way at the locked position.

Help! Don't want to die over this:eek:. I have not called Cognito yet as it is Sunday.

before cognito's
================================================
how many miles were on your original pitman and idler arm?

what size tires?

any hard off roading?

after cognito's:

same questions as above

I put mine on with 75k on the truck ran 285's for the longest before then...

now I drag race with the truck and I haven't seen any issues...but my pitman and idler had zero slop when mine were installed...

some say the key here is not to install them on worn parts i.e. replace those parts to be safe...

I have always had 285's.
I changed idler and pitma at 35k. Then when I installed the Cognito braces, I replaced idler and pitman with new ones.
My off roading since the braces has been minimal. Nothing really rough.

Has anyone seen this catastrophic failure without the Cognito braces?

Also take a look at the steering box sector shaft to see how much slop or extra movement is in that at full lock. I have 2 other guys (both on here) that had the same issue with the pitman arms but we have not been able to figure out the relationship of why it happened. I did find on another high mileage truck that the steering box sector shaft had slop in the box and then it would apply more than normal through on the pitman arm and jamming it against the frame and then transferring it to the pitman shank.
